We stayed here with our family on a trip around the lake. We loved it. It hearkens back to the days of funky motels found along roadsides throughout the country. So many of which have fallen on hard times due to the penchant for the standardized chains. If you want a motel with character, this is the place for you. If you need fancy, this probably isn't your spot.

It was very, very clean. A lot cleaner than many a chain hotel I have been in. It also didn't smell like hotel. The decorations in the lobby are charming, and there were large, lovely flower baskets hanging around the pool. The pool is small, but well kept and functional. Our daughter loved it. The front desk staff and owner were friendly and helpful. They even keep a stash of kids books by the front door for borrowing.

The fact that there haven't been updates is what makes this place charming. It was designed by Earl Young, architect of the mushroom houses, so the tiles and the wall paneling are what make it special. There are so many bland hotels, it's good to see one that has true character. Would love to see some furniture put in that really reflects the era. It has a fantastic location - we parked our car and didn't move it once during our stay. The rooms were huge, quiet, and even with the dark paneling, quite bright due to the large bank of working windows on both sides.

Breakfast is very basic. Wish they had cereal, but that isn't a deal breaker by any means. We hope that this little spot keeps its low-key, affordable, friendly vibe. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Excellent location a block from the beach. A retro hotel with friendly front desk staff. The kids liked the big rooms and parking lot pool was perfect for them. Yes, they don't make hotels like this anymore. The shower/bathroom was built in the 60's and still looks great. We liked the walk to the beach and to town. It would be nice for someone to convert this to a modern retro hotel. I'll stay here again on my next visit.

This budget friendly throw back is fine for a one night stay. Cue up Sinatra on the iPod and step back to the 1960s in this clean but very dated hotel. Pros -- close walking distance to everything, price and family-run. Cons -- no updates done -- ever. Actually I think the carpet may have been replaced as it appears newer. While I'm fine keeping the pink-tiled bath and turquoise sink/shower, I would suggest at least buying new $20 comforters to brighten up the place and perhaps updating the TVs to give a semblance of an effort to stay in this decade. Extremely dark inside bc of dark paneled walls. Pool is small and sits in the middle of the parking lot. Lots of contractor trucks parked in lot. Still a quaint, friendly feel. A place to lay your head -- no frills.

Ok, this hotel has probably not been renovated since it was bullet as other reviewers have said. The attached pictures shows the wood paneling, the bathrooms are pink, brown and off blue. The toilet is blue, the tv is 19 inches tube and far from the bed, which with the road noise in my room made it pretty much useless. So if you are looking for a modern hotel with creature comforts this is not it. Plus the shower nozzle was five feet up. I'm six feet tall, ouch

The plus side is the bed is comfortable, the room was very very clean, there were plugs by the bed which was nice. For what it was which was a bed I needed, it was fine. I did not eat breakfast but it looked like someone mad a run to the grocery store, which is fine, just don't expect a real breakfast

So three stars for a functional and clean but totally outdated decor

We visited Charlevoix and the Lodge because there was a family wedding at the Castle Farms venue. We stayed at the Lodge as a block of rooms had been reserved for that purpose.
The location of the Lodge is about 1 block north of the bridge in Charlevoix, which makes all of downtown Charlevoix easily within walking distance for most. Michigan Beach Park is about 3 blocks away, also an easy walk and a very nice beach.
The wedding had one function at the Weathervane Inn and it was an easy walk (about a half block) from there to the Lodge. The trip to the Castle Farms was a bit harrowing as there was a craft show at East Park, downtown Charlevoix and during the day the town was packed with people.
As others have noted, the Lodge is a bit dated, like walking into the 60’s but also as others have noted, it is very clean and the staff and management very nice. The rooms are big by today’s standards and the one we stayed in had continuous windows on both sides of the room. The pool is small, but clean and wet (it was in the 90’s while we were there).
On our aforementioned return from the Weathervane at about 10:30 PM, we were met in the parking lot by the night manager who was standing in the parking lot as we walked in; he greeted us as we walked past the office.
Breakfast is included; it’s very simple, bagels, English muffins, coffee, tea and condiments.
Cost: we paid $135/night on the weekend, but the rate goes down to the $90/night range during the week. We will definitely stay there again if we stay again in Charlevoix.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the south side of the hotel, they have their own balconies which face the Edgewate...

Yes this hotel is a tad outdated (our bathroom had pink and blue decor) but I couldnt have asked for a better experience. The pool was the perfect size, the rooms were comfortable and extremely clean, and the individuals working were so nice. From the moment that we walked in to get our keys, the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable, they weren't snobby and rude like some other people working in Charlevoix. I had such an amazing stay, plus its located on the edge of town and everything is within walking experience. Don't believe ANY of the bad reviews written on this establishment, I would recommend it to anybody.
