“Never Return”

My wife and her elderly mother stayed at this campsite last year, and had a positive experience. We wanted to re-visit this year, and waited for the same lot to become available. Lot #A is spacious, secluded and close to the beach. We are a pet family, and have 2 dogs, one of which vacationed with my wife last year at this same location. When we called for a reservation, the manager was not very courteous or informative. On our arrival, she was borderline rude in the office and warned us "not to hit my RV" when backing into our spot. While getting set-up, our older dog wandered off, and we found her tied to tree in front of the office. (the rules and regulations sheet never mentioned a leash law). When I took the dogs to the water, she came out of her RV, yelling and screaming about her "leash law". There was no one else in or near the water, or on the beach, or even out of their campers. Our trip was pretty much ruined, we stayed our 2 days, but the atmosphere was non-friendly. We took our pet family to a nearby beach and a boat ramp for their swims, and will not be using this campground ever again. The managers seem to have skipped the public relations part of their training, they never even came around to see if we needed any assistance, or how we were doing. The owner of this campsite lives in Traverse City, and if we knew how to contact him, we would certainly like to share our experience with him. Loons Point is a wonderful campground but could definitely use new managers. (the host family was friendly and very nice to us). We love the UP, but will be looking for a more "user friendly" campground. Unhappy Camper

We tent camp. Tent camping here in shaded area with large sites. RV camping appeared close together but some were on the water. There is a dock available. Rentals of kayaks. Sandy beach with shallow water. Showers were warm and clean. Bathrooms were clean. Fish cleaning station with access to a freezer to keep your fish was helpful. Quiet well kept campground with freindly hosts. Would definately stay here again if in the area.

Room Tip: site M in tenting area had electric and near bathroom

This was a fairly spur of the moment trip, even though I only live about an hour away, I had never been to this area. The campground was located real close to the 'downtown' area of Cedarville, which has a few restaurants and a nice grocery store. Also close to the Hessel casino. I had one of the shaded tent sites which I really enjoyed. The tent sites are large, each with a fire pit and picnic table. It did seem as though the motorhome lots were a bit cramped, but since I was in the tent area it didn't matter to me. The beach area was somewhat small, but it was perfect for what I needed. They have a few chairs and benches on the beachThe office had maps and other area information, they also sell wood, ice, and a few other things you may have forgotten to pack. The washrooms were clean and well cared for.
Overall I would return to this campground. It was close to home, but still was a nice quiet getaway.
