They are very helpful and have lots of sites to go look at. They have ranger led walks, not just here but at the Quincy Mill as well. This the place plan your trip.

“Nice Site With Beautiful Woodwork Too”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2014

I really enjoyed visiting this non-traditional NPS site. I have always loved the Keeweenaw penisula and I loved the interactive displays. I also loved the questions that were posed to visitors. The videos could have been better. I was more interested in learning about the history of the area than hearing about why people were living in the area. The staff was very knowledgeable. I also stopped at several of the sites in the Keeweenaw and enjoyed the new approach to a NPS site very much. It is long overdue.

“A lot of history!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2014

There are several Park Service facilities here (and a number of other museums in town). We went to the Visitors Center in downtown Calumet. A very nice historic building with excellent displays of life during the mining boom, when about 30,000 people lived here! This is the place to start learning about the area.

“World Class Visitor Center”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2014

Keweenaw National Historical Park is located in downtown Calumet, Michigan (Upper Peninsula of Michigan). This unique park tells the story of copper mining - the work, the families, the lives - on the peninsula. Though the mines have since closed, their mark is still visible on the land and people.

The main visitor center is located in Calumet, along with the Keweenaw History Center. Don't miss an opportunity to spend some time looking back in history, while browsing the world-class exhibits on 3 accessible floors. You will be amazed! The National Park Service also operates a seasonal visitor information desk at the Quincy Mine & Hoist located north of Hancock, Michigan.

Working in partnership with the park, there are 19 Keweenaw Heritage Sites which contain significant cultural and/or natural resources and make a unique contribution to the copper mining story. Each site allows you to explore the role mining played in people’s lives.
