This is a wonderful park and heritage site that explains the cooper mining industry in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This is both a National Park and a National Heritage Site. To tour the area you really need to set aside several full days. Also I would highly recommend visiting this park during July or August only because most points of interest are only open during that short summer time period.
There are basically two main locations for this park. The Calumet Visitors Center in Calumet, MI - open June through September only and the Quincy Mine Unit located just north of Hancock, MI open July through August only. - So plan your trip carefully to visit this park.
There are many, many Heritage Sites to visit in the area. They operate independently of the National Park Service. Again they are generally open only during July and August.
Great park with much to see and learn but open on a very limited basis.
