Review of Blue Heron Cafe

Blue Heron Cafe
Ranked #4 of 66 Restaurants in Cadillac
Certificate of Excellence
Cuisines: American
Description: The Blue Heron serves an excellent breakfast and lunch in large proportions; they are not open for dinner. Food is always fresh and unique. Daily lunches include a choice of 2 homemade soups w/complimentary homemade sourdough bread and a variety of sandwiches on homemade sourdough bread or wraps. Salads are always freshly made and filled with fruit, vegetables, and/or meat with tasty dressings. Two baker's display cases are filled each morning with fresh cookies, fried cakes, muffins, bagels, pies, cakes, and a large variety of sweet rolls, baked on site. Customers congregate there for coffee and a choice of doughnut or cookie. Their breakfasts are hearty and delicious. The owner is the cook, and it is a treat to find such a high quality restaurant in this small tourist town.

If your typical good lunch is one of the fast food chains or a bar burger and fries? Nothin wrong with that. Just don't expect to get that here. My wife looked on TripAdviser while we were approaching Cadillac. We normally eat at the Fisherman? place on M115 accross from the lake when we travel through this area. The Blue Heron had some good reviews so we decided we would go off our beaten path a few miles and give it a shot. Breakfast and Lunch served only. It was 11am so lunch was on. Little place ran by nice ladies who try and use fresh veggies and herbs along with top notch breads and cheeses. The sandwich my wife got had melted cheese and asparagus with chicken maybe? It rocked our world (we share). The coliflower(sp) soup was very different but very good. They do the extra special touch things that make dining out a pleasure. I hope they keep their commitment to serve fresh healthy food.

Attention foodies! This place is great! It is a bakery/ breakfast/lunch event! Excellent quality in their baked goods! May be the best cream filled long john I ever had! Homemade breads- excellent. The cinnamon raisin bread was out of this world. It weighed what I thought was 3 lbs because of the ton of raisins! We went for lunch and had the Michigan ham and cheese. Grilled on fresh homemade bread, there was a thin layer of cherry jam to add a dimension. The side with the sandwich was a delightful keewa blended with veggies and a mayo/yogurt dressing. Very, very different but quite good. Friendly service! Nice location downtown. A great gem for Cadillac!

Best lunch of our trip! We looked at tripadvisor for lunch spot between Traverse City and Detroit! Perfect friendly service with outstanding soups and breads! Our two boys 11 and 13 loved their grilled cheese and we loved the prime rib sandwich. Homemade cookies topped off the meal! Skip the fast food and take an extra 20 minutes for family time and quality!

We stopped here after a bike ride on the white pine trail. It was one of the best lunches I've ever had! The staff was so kind and the food was amazing. I had the roasted beet sandwich and the flavor was perfect. My husband had the blackberry jam grilled cheese and raved about it. We're also excited that they have a location in Traverse City, we will absolutely go there! Btw, first time visitors get a free loaf of bread.
