“Out of the way quaint!!”
Reviewed March 3, 2014 via mobile

Make a reservation and allow extra time to scope the beverage list. You'll be glad! Try their own smoked meat forna treat. Off the beaten path a bit....can't wait to sit outside near the river, next to the hillside!

“Cute restaurant with great menu”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

Went to this restaurant on a Friday evening in October. Walked in. Loved the atmosphere; lively, cozy, rustic. Good comfort food menu. Full bar, nice staff. Would highly recommend. There are not a lot of choices for restaurants in this area so plan ahead. We were lucky to get in after a 40 minute wait.

“Out of the way, but not out of touch”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Drive up Redbud Trail, north of Buchanan, MI and you'll find a scenic, curvy road with a speed limit too low if you have a sports car. In our Mustang we obeyed the speed limit, fearing a ticket, and found Wheatberry just maybe a mile outside of Buchanan. Back in the 60's we drive up Redbud to get to Lake Michigan. It was a fun drive at break-neck speeds in cars built to go fast but in a straight line, we all survived. The restaurant is on the west side of the road and hard to miss. We shared the shrimp, a cup of chowder, and half slab of ribs, and the blueberry cobbler. Service was great, food delicious, and in the right proportions. There's an outdoor area, near the woods, we sat indoors. On a Friday night it was getting busy as we left around 8:00.
Be careful driving through Buchanan, the speed limit is low.

“Great Food & Service”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Have eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal. House smoked bar-b-que is excellent. Decent beer menu. Service is top notch. Will continue to go back.

“GREAT RIBS AND DESSERTS!”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

My wife and I have had consecutively great meals at Wheatberry over the the past year since we discovered it's existence from a billboard advertisement from the highway on our way to Four Winds Casino. It's a long drive but well worth it! We enjoy the hardwood smoked ribs and BBQ Pork sandwich. I recommend the Anchor Steam beer which is fabulous! Cornmeal cakes are terrific - we always have seconds with plenty of butter - and they have some of the best desserts of any restaurant we have ever been to! Apple pie, blueberry pie, chocolate, bourbon pecan pie (my favorite!) and others! Wheatberry is closed on Monday as we recently, sadly discovered. I highly recommend this out of the way tavern for a nice drive and a great meal - then treat yourself to the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo!
