We had a weekend stay at this rather elegant hotel in attractive downtown Birmingham. Public areas were bustling with guests and social functions; staff setting up and taking down efficiently and without hindering other guests passing in and through the multiple lobby areas. Our very well decorated luxury king room provided a serene, quiet respite from the action downstairs, which included what appeared to be engagement parties, teas, a visiting NBA team, and tuxedoed revelers. Large walk in closet was a surprise. Large beautiful bathroom---plush towels and robes as one might expect. Front desk staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Missed the world renowned restaurant this trip, but we enjoyed some late night and late afternoon snacking and sipping in the neighborhood spots. Valet parking is offered, but there is street parking and public parking garage very close by.
One gripe-----the $10 charge for in room wifi , the installation of which has likely been paid for 10 times over by now.. Just a petty way to top off the bill, but in an environment as swank as this, it's an annoyance. I'd much rather have had the cost built in to the price of the room.

My husband and I chose this hotel because of the great reviews. We came to the area for an early morning business meeting, but enjoyed our stay so much we've decided to come back to stay for fun. The service was excellent. The rooms large and very clean. We stayed in a King Luxury and it was a great room! We had so much space! Our bathroom was huge with a separate shower and great big tub! The hotel is nestled in a small shopping/dining district within walking distance of the hotel.

From check-in to check-out, the experience was very positive and memorable. We stayed in a luxury suite which came equipped with a seriously divine bed, dining area with mini bar, and living area with large flat screen tv. The in-room art and furniture were above other hotels of similar ratings, actually comfortable and not at all worn down. The marble bathroom was very nice, but "deep soaking tub" is a bit of a stretch. It was a whirlpool tub, but not very deep. Our suite also had a half bath, which was nice.

The concierge service was excellent, I'd ask for Kayla if available. She arranged a last minute couple's massage for Sunday morning, when most spas are already booked and/or closed. They personally drove us there and picked us up when finished. They sent champagne and strawberries to the room, which arrived on the correct scheduled time. The staff was very well presented, from the bell hop to the maids.

We also enjoyed afternoon tea service at the hotel. Tea service was above average, the Tea Director Ginger is a really pleasant lady. Advance reservations are required. 3 course tea, with scones, sandwiches, and desserts. All quality ingredients, impeccably presented.

Our only trouble was that the initial suite we were put in was not clean in the bathroom. We called the lobby and were moved to a new suite within 15 minutes, so it was virtually hassle free. They were very polite and apologetic, it did not seem the norm to me that any cleaning issues frequently exist.

I'd stay again in a heartbeat, preferrably when the weather is a bit nicer. Beautiful downtown area with a lot of spas, galleries, and restaurants.

Room Tip: Luxury suite is worth every penny, choose one with a dining area such as room 201 or room 401.

No doubt that the service here is the best around. Great rooms, food and overall service. Don't worry though...with all the great service comes a huge pricetag. A very nice downtown atmosphere that will meet even the pickiest!
