Description: Welcome to modern American food with serious local flavor; or as we like to say, rustic but refined. Just some of The Stand's distinctions include charcuterie, a dedicated vegan menu, craft beers, private dining areas, a 10-seat chef's table and so much more. It's downtown cool with an uptown vibe.

This place is in a good location in Birmingham. Close to parking and easy to find. It has nice modern decor and the food is actually pretty good but not great. The service was very friendly. Happy hour is nice and food is reasonably priced, especially for the location, where everything tends to be more expensive. It is a good meeting place for business and/or social meetings. I look forward to trying more items in the menu. The burger was actually quite good. I recommend trying it and it has menu items that you don’t find at most restaurants.

We were here to celebrate a family birthday. The apps (shrimp, tuna tartare, cheese plate) were all good though the tuna tartare might have had more tuna) were good and the lobster bisque and salads (grapefruit and avocado, house) were hits with our group. Entrees were delicious: halibut, short rib chantrelle pasta, fried chicken-tasty and juicy. OK selection of wines by the glass but larger selection by the bottle. Attentive service. Nearby parking. Everyone quite pleased.

Went to the Stand on November 6 and the place was empty with the exception of a few people at the bar and people at two other tables. The menu did not show the items that are on the Stand's website. Valet parking is gone. They could not serve us bread or coffee because we were told they had none. It is a shame that this beautiful restaurant looks like it is going out of business. If they can't even serve common items, they should close now.

Please take this post down. we had complications that evening on many fronts that altered service and standards. For you to blatantly tell people that we are going out of business is very disturbing. You are affecting the livelihood of a staff of 30 hard working individuals who have families and bills. Shame on you!!

The food products seem good. Service is great, really nice but not gastro.

The cooking was really average and far from gastro.
Too many flavors, too fat even for a dish that did not need any. Too much salt as well. Seems like no-one tries the dishes.

At the end, this restaurant seems quite expensive for the quality.

Visited this week with a business group. We had reserved a private room, however, as our group size increased beyond fire code they offered up a portion of their dining room considering the week night and their standing reservations. Normally we do not like the set ups resulting for privacy and respect of other patrons however The Stand did and exceptional job even putting up a temporary but non obstructive wall for us. The service was good and the food excellent. Highly recommend for a combo that cannot be beat.
