We met the owner upon check in. He was a very nice gentleman (Jim) ... very friendly. On check out we worked with a woman (I assume his wife ... I did not get her name). She was very friendly and asked about our stay as well as how well the air kept our unit cool (it worked very well by the way) in the 90 degree + heat.

It is currently peak season in this area, and we were pleased to be able to find a last minute opening here for a couple of days. We initially contacted them by email and after a couple of email exchanges we talked on the phone to firm up the reservation. We were in an efficiency unit that worked well for our family (four young boys). There were two regular beds and they also provided us with a roll away. The kitchen area was not fancy, but it was certainly suitable for our use.

This is not a chain-type motel. We actually had a traditional metal key to open our room. I would certainly recommend this place to family and friends.

There is a nice pool. The pool was very clean and well maintained. It is not a huge pool (maximum of about 3 - 4 ') but very good for us and our 4 young boys.

Behind the motel was a bit of a marshy area where my kids could watch the ducks and frogs jumping from the dock.

It is just a couple of doors down from the famous Cherry Hut eating establishment and only a couple of blocks from beautiful Crystal Lake and the downtown shopping and eating areas. This hotel was also very, very convenient to our Sleeping Bear Dunes destination. We were only a few miles down the road when the kids where already asking when we could go back.

They have a web site but it is fairly dated. When we first looked at the web site, I sort of had my doubts about the facility ... however, it is clear that the website is simply not a high priority for them.

Room Tip: They seem to have traditional old style motel rooms as well as a number of different room layouts in the newer areas of the facility. Our efficiency was literally just a few feet from the state road that travels by so there was some traffic noise, but it did not disturb our sleep or keep us from having a good time. We did not have a pool side room, but you may want to ask about options for pool side rooms because they look nice too.

This is our third visit to Northwoods and the room is comfortable. We always stay in Room 12 because it has a full bath with tub and shower. Some of the rooms here are shower only. Bed was comfortable and room had microwave, frig and coffemaker as well at wifi and TV. We ate breakfast here only one of our three mornings and it was average at best. Also there is little or no seating so you would need to plan to take food back to your room or sit outside weather permitting. The property is always clean, quiet and convenient to the things we like to do and see in area. We have found all properties are rather over priced during the busy season.

Room Tip: Room 12 is right near pool, on main floor and has full bath with tub and shower.

If you want to enjoy the beautiful Sleeping Bear lakeshore and the lifestyle of M22, staying in the Northwoods is perfect. It is a short distance to Glen Arbor, Leelanau Peninsula, and Traverse City. Crystal Lake is across the street. The rooms are comfy and clean. We have stayed there many times alone and with groups of family members. Very accomodating.

I took my son and a friend for an Up North weekend of outdoor adventure in early July. This charming little hotel right on US 31 had a room with 3 beds (my son was thrilled to not end up on an air mattress per usual), with a full-size kitchen table. The room was clean, had a microwave, flat screen TV, air conditioning and a couple of chairs for reading. We had a view of the wetlands behind the room, and saw various forms of water fowl during our stay. Breakfast was ample, and I was able to bring it upstairs so the sleeping kids could consume it after they woke up. The pool was clean and a welcome relief after a bike ride on a hot day. Beulah has a nice city beach on Crystal Lake, and is only 10 minutes from the Lake Michigan Beach in Frankfort. Nicely centrally located to many area activities. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: The front rooms may have a little highway noise, they are very close to US 31.

During a week-long trip traveling thru the UP and the northern portion of lower MI, this was the smallest, least-well furnished and most expensive room that my mother and I encountered. I booked based on previous reviews, but was very disappointed. The owners are friendly and we did enjoy watching cranes, a green heron and other waterfowl out our back window, but the room itself and the "breakfast light" were underwhelming compared to other accommodations. The room and the whole town seemed to be a throwback to the '60s, but the prices were not! At more than $100 for a room in a small Midwest town, it'd be nice to have a hairdryer, box of Keenex, luggage rack or bench, and better lighting. The doors to the rooms are probably less than 70 feet from busy HWY 31. Overall, clean and homey but not a place I'd return to at that price.
