It's hard to believe you can be in a remote northern Michigan town and run across Lulu's which is absolutely a gem. The food here is spectacular, the service is outstanding and the atmosphere is casual, relaxing and inviting. A friend has a place in Kalkaska, MI and we always make it a point to travel to Lulu's for a fabulous meal. It has actually become a tradition for us to dine there. For those of you who happen to live in Bellaire, you're very lucky to have such a great establishment to frequent. Don't miss this place if you happen to be near Bellaire, MI....it's to die for.

We've eaten here several times but avoid busy periods. The hard surfaces throughout make for an obnoxiously loud environment. Staffing in a small town is tough so service can be inconsistent. The gourmet food is upscale. If on a budget the pizza is a standout. You need to try it at least once.

Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere. Very impressive, especially in such a small town. We eat here every time we are in Bellaire!

For our appitizer we had the mussels and they were SPECTACULAR! I had never had them before and I couldnt be more pleased with my first expirience. For dinner I had the beef tenderloin and my fiance had the Lemon Sol. Both were so wonderful. The service was fabulous too. Our servers name was Amber and she was everything you expect in good servers. She was there when you needed her and disappeared when you didnt. We were extremely pleased.

We have been coming to Lulu's for years and it seems the last 2 years have gone from 5 stars to 3 or 4. That's a shame. Our savory food was pretty good this time, but the service was spotty and overall it was not a good experience. To top it off the restaurant's air conditioning had broken weeks before we were there and it was literally so hot on a Friday night we could barely finish our food. We asked to take our desserts onto the patio and they refused saying "then more guests would want to go out there and we don't have enough servers tonight". Very bad customer service. It was their air conditioning that had been broken for WEEKS and they make it their guests fault and lost out on additional drinks and dessert revenue for 4 guests...not good. We did end up getting carry-out desserts and ate them back at our B&B, but not drinks. It cut our night short with friends.

Overall the food was good but not great. The Whitefish Perogie's were a standout, the encrusted Walleye was just ok, the Pork Loin was good. One note about the desserts...they were TERRIBLE. Creme Brulee was like water, the feature raspberry dessert was hard as a rock and the chocolate mouse tasted like a 5 year old made it. Some of the worst desserts, no kidding I have ever had.

I really hope the fact that Lulu's ownership has expanded to other restaurants has not caused these issues. We heard from other diners and people we know in the area that also said they felt "it had gone downhill" We are really bummed. This used to be one of our favorite places in Michigan. Service and food were excellent. I hope they can improve and get back to where they used to be.
