I have stayed at this hotel 3 times in the past month. The first two times I had a great room, the breakfast was OK, the pool and hot tub were fine and the staff attentive. This past visit, the room rates had gone up $10, which I figured was fine since the summer travel season is getting underway here in Michigan. What I did not anticipate was how fast a hotel could go downhill in a couple of weeks time. The problems began at check-in; I know Hampton Inns are a relatively casual place, but the person on-duty was wearing a very low-cut blowse that left absolutely nothing to the imagination when she handed you your paperwork to fill out. According to her name badge, she was also supposed to be the assistant manager. When I walked in my room, I smelled the faint but unmistakable odor to stale cigarette smoke (this is a non-smoking room). I also had a very hard time sleeping due to the incessant traffic noise (the hotel is just off I-94); in the morning, a look at my window in this room told me why - the sill was bent into a curve and it wouldn't even close completely. Coming down to breakfast the next morning, I heard one staff member at the desk remark to another "This is going to be a terrible day, it's starting already" or words to that effect. Whatever happened to Hampton's breakfast? This one had no eggs, not sausage, no protein sources at all. Since my diet precludes a lot of carbs, I had to go elsewhere. Also, the pool water was very cloudy when I went down for a swim the night before, in spite of the fact that I didn't see anyone else using the pool but myself. Lastly, someone had broken the side entrance door since I was last here 2 weeks before, not good for hotel security at all. In my opinion, the management of this hotel needs to pay a lot more attention to the buildings physical condition, guest amenties and staff training. Next time I am in town, I will be trying a different hotel.
