My girlfriend and I had dinner at this wonderful Inn last night. From the really fresh chilled garden salad (included with the meal) to the decadent Chocolate browning pudding, everything was perfect. My girl had the blackened fresh salmon & I had the steak au poivre. Both were perfect! The waitperson was very attentive but not pushy. We both agreed to put this restaurant on our must return list!

Living on Cape Cod, we had driven by this place many times, without giving it much thought., It sits on Route 6A, the Old King's Highway, which is that part of Cape Cod that Patty Page sang of .For a special occasion we wanted to try a new place, so we made reservations. What a pleasant surprise!
The outside of the inn looks a little shopworn, as expected from a place built in 1730. Inside, the four small dining rooms spoke of understated elegance. We were seated in a glass-enclosed porch with an expansive view of the lawn. The restaurant was uncrowded on a Sunday night. Service was excellent but not intrusive.
My wife had an eggplant with three cheeses over angel hair pasta, one of the nightly specials. She thought it was delicious, but that the eggplant was slightly undercooked.
I had the london broil steak, cooked to perfection, which was also delicious, but somewhat chewy. The salad of mixed greens was fresh and crisp, with a homemade dressing. We each had a cocktail before dinner and a glass of wine with the meal. That bill for the entire evening was $64.10, but a $15-off coupon from the local paper brought it down even further.
We will definitely go back again, and will introduce our friends to this great restaurant.

Prior to our trip to the Cape, we had done a web search for a restaurant that would be open for Easter. The Colonial House came up as an option, and based on our experience two years ago of having difficulty finding a place on Easter, we booked reservations.

The building is an old sea captain's home - very old. The dining rooms are on the first floor, and there is a clear atmosphere of frayed elegance. The walls could use a coat of paint, and I could see myself spending a couple of fruitful hours reglueing some of the chairs.

We had booked a reservation for late afternoon, but instead decided to try to walk in several hours earlier. That wasn't a problem - they weren't fully booked. For Easter the had both turkey and ham specials - we opted for the turkey and it was quite good. Portions were ample. The fixed-price meal included an appetizer (cottage cheese and veggies), soup, salad and desert. Wife had indian pudding of course - I opted for a creme de menthe sundae. Overall impression of the meal was good - not necessarily memorable, but good.

I stayed at the colonial house inn and enjoyed a murder mystery weekend. The room was very cozy. The breakfast basket was excellent and had a nice variety of items. Dinner was excellent as well and i recommend the chix marsala. Mac and his staff are courteous, as well as humorous. If you are looking for something to do while staying, Mac can give you several options.
One more thing... they allow dogs!!!!

We chose the Colonial House Inn because we had stayed there years ago several times and it was charming. The charm was lost this time due to the state of disrepair and lack of cleanliness we found our room in. There was a pervasive odor in the room that seemed to come from the bedspread, shams and curtains. The corners of the room were not swept and the woodwork obviously hasn't been cleaned in a long, long time. Some of the furniture looked as if it had been picked from the trash such as, the four post bed with a broken post that had been hastely glued back together, the dresser with extensive damage to the top surface and the occasional table that looked like it had spent the night out in the rain. In addition to this the bed which did have clean but stained sheets was overly firm and uncomfortable. On the dresser was a ceramic pitcher and basin that would have been lovely but for the broken basin interior that was covered with a dirty cloth doiley. The Inn includes dinner and a light breakfast. The main entrees were good but the sides were bland and repetetive each night. The Sunday brunch was OK but not special. On Monday I was disturbed to see Brunch leftovers in the pastry basket including; quiche, a waffle and a pancake. I will never return to this Inn.
