Cheap and easy for folks with bikes to use. They held the ferry 2 minutes so my family and I could get on. Kindness much appreciated.

it's fairly efficient, the ticket people obviously have been abused by the uber rich and border on rude (probably a defensive measure). it runs like clock work, car ferry sells out often-so buy your tickets days or weeks before. The ferry are smooth, well built (especially the new ones), food is ok, no smoking and they do serve beer...Efficient way to get to MV

Only $16 for a round trip to the Vineyard = not bad. With many departure times, two ports of call on MVY, and enough seats to go around, there should be no complaints!

No matter which ferry you choose to go to the islands, it is going to take some time. You'll have to find parking (assuming you're not taking a car), take a shuttle, wait in line, etc., etc. It is the price you have to pay to get to a picturesque island. We decided we didn't need a car for a day-trip as the local bus transportation was enough. We went on potentially the busiest day of the year as it was Oak Bluff's annual fireworks night. SSA has an mobile phone specific website that directs you to the closest parking lot with open spots - all are safe and manned. The shuttles run more frequently than they advertise. We saw 3 shuttles in a 15 min span. The driver knew that it would be close to make it in time for the next ferry and she safely sped to the port to ensure made it. The ticket booth is efficient and we bought the discounted 10 ride book as we had 5 people. The ticket book was flexible so that we were able to ride out to Vineyard Haven but take the late evening Oak Bluffs' ferry back instead - that worked great after long day of walking and bus riding all over the island. The ferry had plenty of seats and space despite the busy day and boarding/deboarding was really quick considering they also took on cars below deck. There was a snack bar, TVs, A/C, rest rooms, and even WiFi on board. What else do you need for a 45 min ride? It's not the cleanest place in the world, but it's only 45 mins. The staff was pleasant and helpful and they quickly get you off and onto waiting shuttle buses - something you'll want upon your return on a day trip. Try to grab your seats quickly if you prefer sitting at a table or booth since they get taken first. For a day trip, to MV, I recommend these guys even if you're out in Hyannis since it is not too far a drive to SSA's parking lots. Just leave plenty of time to get to the lot, ride the shuttle, and board.
