From the outside, it's a retro motel with rooms flanking a pool. Each room is comfortable and clean. The hosts are friendly and welcomed us before the season had actually begun. Less than 1/2 mile to the harbor, an easy walk takes you to good restaurants and the ferry. I'd be happy to stay again.

We have stayed here about four times when we have had an early morning ferry to catch the next day. It is clean, dependable, generally quiet and most of all convenient. When we arrive it's after an 11 hour car trip, we check in, walk to town for our first lobster dinner of the trip, go back to the room, collapse and sleep til the alarm goes off. The ferry could not be closer, if you have luggage with wheels you could probably walk it easily (but we are alwasy taking a car on the ferry so don't know for sure). Once when we stayed, it was a weekend and a party of "destinantion wedding" freinds/relatives made things a bit noisy, but it did not disturb our sleep. Also of note: old fashioned "motel" style places can smell "musty" from all the wet shoes, beach towels etc but this place seems cleaner/dryer than many similar. Beware there is no breakfast at the inn, but the town is a short walk away with a selection of bakeries and/or coffee shops. Very reasonably priced for the excellent location.

We appreciate your comments and your repeat business. We wish your ratings were higher, others have been, but this is an honest review. We are an older motel but we work very hard to provide first rate service and cleanliness. Please let us know if you notice any specific problems when you stay with us.

I stayed here for a good friends wedding this past September and have no real complaints. This is a quintessential no frills motor lodge. You know what to expect the second you look at pictures of the place. The rooms are small and basic but comfortable enough. The Sleepy Hollow is just a few minutes walk or extremely short drive to the center of Woods Hole. My wife and I arrived very late at night and the proprietors were helpful in setting us up with the room with no hassle once we gave them the heads up.

If you need to stay in the area this place is relatively affordable and convenient.

We stayed here for a wedding. I had never been to New England before...and I absolutely loved it! This hotel is perfect for this little area. Charming and cozy...just like Woods Hole. I love to walk around...and you could literally walk to pretty much everything there! The room was a perfect size for my boyfriend and I. The shower stall was kinda tight for a taller person like myself...but it was fine despite a few elbow bumps here and there. Ha! I'd love to come back in the summer and explore more of this area because the wedding kept us a little busy. But what a gorgeous place to have a wedding.

Place is about as basic as it comes - no frills. The gal at the counter was helpful but definitely made it known up front that they charge the same amount as does the TVA. The TVA provides shuttle service - sleep hollow provides encouragement to walk a half a mile. :-)

We are a little baffled by this review. Most likely there was some confusion about this traveler's plans when he or she spoke to our desk clerk. We routinely offer guests free parking during day trips to Martha’s Vineyard. If this guest was improperly charged we’d be happy to refund the fee.

We are not in the parking business but when we have space available we also allow guests leaving for the Vineyard to park overnight for a $15 a day, the least expensive rate in the village. Some guests appreciate this because the Steamship Authority customarily uses remote lots and shuttle buses to deliver travelers to their terminal. We are about ½ mile from the terminal; it’s not a difficult walk but we make frequent trips to transport guests back and forth. We just can’t guarantee that this service is always available. We also sell ferry tickets and are happy to offer Vineyard tourism advice.

The other reviews this summer from Senior and Top Contributors offer a much more accurate description of our accommodations.

Woods Hole is such a wonderful small village to stay in with Sleepy Hollow within easy walking distance of the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and multiple restaurants to choose from. The bathroom has been updated; the room was very clean and comfortable. I think an excellent deal for staying right on the cape.

Room Tip: I chose a first floor room at the back of the Inn for quiet and ease of access.

This is a general note of appreciation to the guests who have posted reviews this past summer. We particularly value the comments from Senior and Top Contributors. We don’t agree with all of the comments (we prefer “devastatingly attractive” to “cute”) but overall the reviews offer an honest impression of our accommodations. We were built around 1960 and are located in the Woods Hole Historic District so we are and hope to continue to be a classic motor inn. We try to offer our guests the three things that we find most important in our own travels: affordability, hospitality, and cleanliness.

While Sleepy Hollow is not a 5-star inn in the sense that you can expect lots of luxury, I rate it five-stars for what it is: a motor inn.

We stayed here one night on our way to the Martha's Vineyard Ferry. The ferry is just minutes from the inn, so it's incredibly convenient. We checked in fairly late at night, and the innkeeper was very friendly and helpful at registration.

The inn has been updated, but it is clearly an older building and layout. Rooms are small, as are shower stalls (always a problem for my 6-foot plus husband) but very comfortable and incredibly clean.

Overall, I was prepared to be disappointed (as I only ended up staying there because my first choice B&B was booked) but I pleasantly surprised. We got a good night's sleep in a convenient location, which was exactly what I wanted. This cute little motor inn really raises the bar for places in this category. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on future trips to Martha's Vineyard.
