“No extra mile”
Reviewed July 5, 2006

Nice place. Fundamentals are acceptable. Due to limited staff to assist guest, they tend to cut short their responsibility in satisfying a customer.

A complaint for a not working telephone, they charged the cost of replacing the phone to the guest. The house engineer alleged that it was damaged by the guest himself. The guest requested for a dialogue/further check, nothing happened on the next 6 days. A day before check out , the replacement phone was discovered to be not working too. Again, reported to the front desk.

Requested for housekeeping. Coffe maker glass got lost...an ash tray missing. Reported the incident, answer : " we will check ". Nothing was checked.

The last compromise : " we will refund the damaged phone charge after our investigation ". How can you tell that to a guest who is leaving and will be 8000 miles away in the next 48 hours?

Generally, the staff are OK but just can't handle cases cited.
I, being the guest is not happy. It was a bad experience.

Having stayed at several other Marriott Residence Inns (MRI) before, we knew what to expect and were not disappointed with the accommodations (our 8 year old upon entering our 2 bedroom unit exclaimed, "We have been here before" - although he'd never been to Mass. before.)

The unit was spacious and with 4 kids (ages 12, 10, 8 and 4), we definitely appreciated the two separate bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The hotel seemed a little "tired and worn" but was clean and no apparent signs of disrepair or neglect.

Pluses - staff in the breakfast/snack area were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was standard fare every morning but was plentiful, hot and fresh (kids loved the waffle maker), along with fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges), different flavors of yogurt, cold cereals, oatmeal, etc. Dining area was large and our family of 6 always found a table available. We had the late PM snack once (although our first day, we helped ourselves to the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and juice) and then had "calzones" another day (more like hot pockets) but was good. We brought a laptop with us and were able to get high speed FREE internet access!

For the rate and convenience of being close to the commuter rail line to get into Boston (about a 25 minutes train ride, family pass cost $14 for a single round trip into North Station in Boston during offpeak travel times) and the space, we would consider staying here again.

Negatives - the supplies in the bathrooms were very skimpy (just a bar of soap and two very small bottles of shampoo, which were not replaced during our 4 night stay!), pool smelled heavily chlorined, not much "service staff" in the hotel at all. A/C did not work after first day, so we just opened the windows at night.

Overall, pretty good value (no charge for parking but you have to consider the "commuter" costs into Boston everyday, plus the subway fare once in the City) and you know what you're getting with a MRI.

I recently stayed at the RI with my two daughters. We were very happy with everything about this place. Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were very clean as was the overall hotel. We enjoyed the pool and the whirlpool! The breakfast was a nice perk, as was the shuttle to places nearby. We will defintely stay here again if we are ever in the area.

The location of this hotel is great. Lots of restaurants and stores in the area. Higher floor has good view. Breakfast is OK. But no waffles like other Residence Inn.

The negative comments about this hotel is their whirlpool. There is a halogen light at the bottom side of the whirlpool and it's extremely hot. My leg got burned when I touched it. I reported this unsafe condition to the front desk. But no one apologized or asked if I was all right. The service could be better. Also there were lots of little kids jumping in and out the whirlpool. The rules posted on the wall about using the whirlpool should be much bigger so the parents can see that no one under 18 is allowed in the whirlpool.

great hotel !

1. very friendly helpful staff
2. very modern, clean , great decor
3. very comfy - large suites
4. bed firm and comfy
5. very quiet
7. free high speed internet port in room ( i forgot to bring my laptop) - no worries -- they have an office and computer that u can use for free .. nexct to the pool area
8. great access to the 93 into boston and the 95 1 mile south

very satisfied

the MINOR issues
1. -- the free breakfast -- pretty good but sausage/hamburger instead of bacon ? -- no biggie for me - i'm a vegie so i stuck to the cereal
2. the pillows -- hows about more than one pillow - 'nice when you are sitting up in bed watching the telly -- again no biggie -- im sure the front desk would arrange additional if you asked for them

Stayed for three nights during the Boston Marathon. Staff were most friendly. Complimentary shuttle to take you to train station...they even picked you up from there too! Continental breakfast was excellent. Waffle station, cereal, bagels, eggs, sausage, etc.
Rooms were spotless. Kitchenette was small but did the job. Hotel is fairly new. Free internet access in loby. Excellent hotel for the rate. It took us about 40 minutes to get downtown Boston (2 train transfers). A taxi to north Boston is $40US. Staff extremely helpful with tourist questions, ie. attractions, directions, etc. They even have daily (Mon-Fri) complimentary happy hour specials. We had calzones one night; they were great. The pool and hot tub had a bit too much clorine in them. Fitness centre looked great. No complaints about the Residence in except that its far away from the action...the rate compensated for this though.

I stayed at the RI on two occasions in 2004 (June and Novemeber) while visiting relatives in the area. The hotel has a great location, right at the I-95 - I-93 interchange. The on/off exit from 93 is very easy and the "backdoor" exit from 95 is also easy once you know about it. The hotel has a Target located across the street and several restaurants down the side road (Commerce Way, I believe).
On both our stays we had a one bedroom suite. The room was very clean and well maintained. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant. As stated in other reviews they have a very nice indoor pool and spa. We would definately stay at this hotel again.
