“quaint place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary based on reviews given on trip advisor.. and we were happy we did! This hotel is quaint and charming. We liked that it was nestled in a neighborhood but still had a good view of the Boston Harbor. We were less than 10 minutes away from the transit system as well as Logan airport. We ate dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was so delicious! We both ordered the seafood platter and could tell that the fish was fresh. As pleasant as our stay was there were a couple of negatives. The parking is limited which was a problem since the restaurant was a popular place. We had to have the valet move cars around so we had a parking spot and that was a little inconvenient. Also, since this is a family run business there was no one at the front desk 24/7. Luckily we did not run into any issues where we needed assistance but wondered what we would have done if we did. We also had an issue with the room cleaning. We received fresh towels daily and the bed was made..that was pretty much it. The coffee pot was not emptied nor were the glasses cleaned or replaced. We were also surprised that no one asked us how our stay was going. We stayed there a full week and only talked to someone at the front desk when we checked in and caught the owner Dave as we were leaving.

Room Tip: Room 214 overlooks Boston Bay.

The Winthrop Inn was built in 1916. It has the old world charm. It is a beautifully well maintained hotel. The lobby is very nice with a sitting area and restaurant/tavern inside. The rooms are all upstairs. We stayed in Room 208 which was recommended on Travel Advisor. The view of the ocean from this room is beautiful. The ocean is actually behind one row of houses, but you can see it. We went outside to watch the beautiful sunrise over the ocean. The room itself, is actually three rooms. A dining area with stove, mini fridge, sink, coffee maker, dishes and flatwear were also provided. The sitting area with love seat, chair and flat screen TV, tables and lamps were very comfortable . The bedroom had two Queen size very COMFORTABLE beds with lots of pillows. There is a huge dresser with a night stand between the beds and a Flat Screen TV. The bathroom was roomy with a tub/shower. The room was very clean. The people are very friendly and accomodating. This was one of our favorite places to stay while on our New England vacation!

Room Tip: Choose Room #208, great view and comfy beds!

PLUS'S-quaint lobby, great bar area and absolute excellent food. Staff/owner like family.
NEAGATIVE'S-No elevator and no breakfast sevice. shame-all that is needed is a small breakfast area for it-again-is a quaint hotel.

This was my fourth stay at the Arms and would not not think of staying anywhere else. Away from the hustle/bustle yet close enough to downtown Boston. Across the street from the ocean, in a quaint neighborhood. Can't wait until my next visit.

I stay here every time I am in the Boston area which is four or five times a year. This is one of those hotels that feels homey and comfortable. The owners Dave and Connie are so friendly. I stayed a couple nights this Labor day weekend and as I was checking out Sunday Dave thanked me for staying there and shook my hand and said "Hope you come back again and safe trip home"

The check-in was easy even though you have to go back to your car to place the parking permit on the dash. The room was clean and comfortable. The Hotel is showing it's age and is not accessible to disabled. It is in a quiet location but very close to the airport and Boston.

Room Tip: Second floor, last room on the left (room 232). Great view of the water.

My husband and I needed to be close to the airport for our early morning flight back to Colorado. I found Winthrop Arms on Trip Advisor and decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised by the nice view of the ocean and the cleanliness of the room. It is an old hotel which makes it even more enticing. We had an amazing dinner and our waitresses were very nice and fun. If we ever get back to Boston, we will definitely stay again!!
