“Good food, bring your own beverages!”
Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

This place was a really cool find. We got our table and then my husband ran next door to buy a bottle of wine. Our waitress (who was sweet and helpful) brought us glasses and opened the bottle. She was helpful in choosing a meal. I had the Ravioli Greca - delicious, and hubby had the gnocchi - equally awesome. BTW - this site calls the cuisine Mediterranean, but it's primarily Italian. The owner was a really gregarious guy who made everyone feel like royalty, especially the little girl at the neighboring table! The atmosphere was lacking a bit, but everything was clean and the food was presented beautifully. Definitely recommended!

“Nothing to go back to.”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

Here goes.
The food was decent in the aspect as not many have that Mediterranean twist. But honestly I can't remember anything that stuck out for flavors at all.
We had the Caprese. It wasn't. More like cold ware-housed tomatoes that at least were red.
The mozzarella was ok-ish. Not bad but not creamy or smooth and seemed like the fridge had chilled out the entire flavor from it.
A lamb shank dish and veal dish that left no lingering memory of the meal at all.
On that night I went It was 95 with a humidity reading of 100% and they did not have the AC on. Only the door was open and fans on. :(
It's ByoB which is fun for me. It's also fair in price.
However the bowl the Lamb shank came in had a large chip out of it and also had a noted crack or two. I understand that this was a clay type cooking bowl as well as a serving one. But a restaurant should not use dishes out of your grandma's cabinets should it?

“Pretty good little place”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

The best part of this restaurant is that it was very close to our hotel, and was the best place to eat on the cove. The food was pretty good- the stuffed eggplant was great!- but nothing spectacular. Worth visiting for the owner- he was awesome! Very friendly and talkative.

“Alia's”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Fantastic food and they will prepare anything you ask for providing ingredients are on hand. Owner operated. You are welcomed as soon as you open the door and walk in. Fantastic place for group parties. Small but worth the wait. Bring your own wine or other beverage. Liquor store just around corner should you forget. Have tried most menu items and can honestly say everyone was fantastic!

Said lahyani chef, owner

May 21, 2013
The Harrington House B & B recommended Alia to us. We wanted to eat at a local restaurant that would serve great food and we were fortunate to find Alia.
When we walked into the doorway the chef/owner, Alia greeted us and invited us in. He was a high-energy, personable kind of guy who had a passion for not only serving good food but also providing an environment where guests could enjoy the dining experience. The restaurant was not noted for having a beautiful décor but definitely to have the friendliest owner. Upon walking in we realized this was a “locals’ hangout. Six or seven tables were able to seat parties of 2-4, with a long table for 20 people in the center of the room.
Before arriving at this BYOB restaurant it was recommended that we take a bottle of wine from a small wine store in town. We found a variety of wines from all over the world, which had been reasonably priced (just past Alia Restaurant restaurant and to the left – a Budweiser sign above the door).
The owner and chef Said lahyani was enjoyable to talk with about a variety of subjects, including his appreciation for life. The wait staff (1) gave personalized service.
Alia was excited about cooking whatever we wanted to eat. We chose the wild salmon done in a Moroccan style. The eggplant and chicken with ricotta cheese, pasta and gnocchi with caramelized onions and chicken were what the three of us selected.
Items were varied on the menu from seafood (mussels were great) Greek, Moroccan and of course many Italian dishes. Great dipping bread sauce filled with olives and cheese. Tiramisu was the perfect ending to the meal.
This restaurant is close to the airport on the little island of Winthrop. You would need a car to get there. What a great place to go and/or stay if you want some quiet seaside time, the evening dining with the locals and still be very close to the city.
