the first room we were given was small and the phone did not work. After saying that we wanted a refund if the phone was not working, we were given a new room next to our friends (which we requested when we first made the reservations), which was the proper size and had a working phone.
If the phone had worked in the first room, we would have had to stay there. That first room was not up to HO JO reputation.

Great pool and picnic area. Clean water, deep end cordoned off from shallow, lounge chairs. Odd, angled ramp. Separate but adjacent grassy picnic area with tables, chairs, and grill. Room was less than great. Bed was soft and unsupportive - my back was unhappy every AM. Furnishings, rug, curtains were not lovely, a bit worn and shabby. Clean. AC worked. Never tried breakfast so can't comment.

The room was ok. It was clean at first sight but if you looked into the corners etc it was actually pretty dirty. I didn't want t look too closely... The room also had some kind of a weird smell...
As mentioned brakfast isn't much but it's ok. One of the guys at the reception is kind of passive but he did help me out with questions I had. The manager was very helpful!
Especially in morning (around 7-8am) it was very loud with people slamming doors etc. You also hear everything from the room above you because the floor creaked so bad!

Room Tip: If you can choose a room on the second floor. I imagine it's a lot quieter!

Friendly service is what gets this two stars. Also the room was pretty big and I liked the free wifi and bath as well as shower. But poor on bed quality - not comfortable, sheets not very nice and the pillows smelled moldy. Breakfast did not interest - just two types of cereal and the rest all white flour carbs. Small red delicious apples (uck) but some bananas.

This was not a nice place to stay, the wi fi didn't work, I was there for three days. there was a sock laying on the floor from the previous person. The rugs were grubby, and dirty, I changed rooms for the fourth nite and the room smelled , I had to open the windows for a couple of hours to get the stink out. I think the howard johnson would revisit this motel for cleanliness.

We've stayed here before. It's usually decent for a one or two night stay. Price is right but they REALLY need to work on the fitness room - ONE machine worked!
