Following a day of Great day of skiing we decided to stop a see the availability of an overnight stay. Very pleasantly pleased ...our warm room, canopy bed, great location with a wonderful Mexican restaurant just down the street....I would definitely stay there next time we ski!

Room Tip: we loved room #7!

great owners, awesome location, beautiful grounds, free amazing breakfast each morning, plenty of things to do around town! we loved this place for a long weekend and it is in a wonderful northern Berkshires area.

We stayed here for one night to break our journey from Stowe to Cape Cod. It was a very pretty location and the room was adequate but did need a little modernising. The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment - only offering a cold buffet which was really only cereal and a selection of breads. Williamstown was a strange place and we found it quite difficult to find anywhere to eat as it was peak 'leaf peeping' season so we would not venture to that area again.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask to have a room at the back if you don't like traffic noice

We stayed here on our way to Cape Cod after staying in Niagara Falls, so was really only on a night stop to break up the long journey. Very lovely setting, a little too cold to go in the swimming pool but nice that there was the option. Unfortunately the owner wasn't expecting us as our booking had been taken down wrong by her receptionist. Rather than arriving on 09/06, she had taken it to mean 6th Sept. Just one of our differences on how to interpret dates. The owner was most apologetic when she realised the mistake and brought a lovely vase of flowers and some chocolate to our room. We stayed at the back of the hotel which overlooked the gardens and stream. This also meant we didn't have to drag our suitcases up any stairs. Room was a little dark (low lighting), but very comfortable. Breakfast was included in the price. Would certainly stay again so we could see more of this lovely area. Only a 10 minute walk to the nearest restaurant, but a little further from town.

With numerous glowing reviews reported, the wise old owl of Tripadvisor rates the Berkshire Hills Motel at almost the same level as the St. Regis in NYC. In reality the two establishments are worlds apart in terms of quality and amenities (as well as about $800 per night) . However, if you dear fellow traveler, keep in mind that the Berkshire is an independent roadside motel with all the features common to that genre you will be mostly satisfied with your stay.

The Good - In general, the room, building and grounds are all clean and well maintained. The breakfast room is bright and cheerful. The highway out front is not overly busy so the front facing rooms can be considered quiet. Depending on your travel dates the room rates can be reasonable and good value.

The Not So Good - Like the motel concept, the mattress in our room was from another era - too much on the firm side for a solid night's sleep, no pillowtops here. In a European touch, the TV screen could not have been smaller. Bathing is done in a shower stall with a shower head about the size of a small satellite dish, although it does provide a very pleasant spray. Towels are of the sizing known as just-large-enough (to be called adequate), but do have a side benefit of providing an exfoliating service via their coarse texture. Depending on your travel dates the room rates can be exorbitant for what is provided.

The Just Okay - The "free" breakfasts one encounters while traveling vary from 1 to 10 in quality. The Berkshire's is a 6. Good marks for presentation and real crockery vs. disposables. Only tepid marks for available food which is comprised of a range of breads, cold cereals, coffee and an orange-like fruit juice. In reality, it's likely what most of us eat each morning, I suppose I've just come to expect a bit more variety and interest when traveling and indeed paying for it in the room rate.

The Verdict - Would we stay here again? Perhaps, but only if the room rate was below $100.

Comparing a Quaint Country Inn in a small New England town to the St. Regis in New York City is an unusual approach for this reviewer's comparison of ratings. It is the guest that rates their experience and I am pleased that my marks are generally so high. In fact, the former General Manager of the St. Regis and I are close friends, it is a lovely property, which I have enjoyed several times.

I am happy this guest enjoyed his room, our lovely grounds and cheerful breakfast roo.

The mattress is a personal preference. I do get much positive feedback on a "great night's sleep"
with the common comment that my guests slept later than usual.

The Breakfast - I come from a corporate hotel background with Omni Hotels, Sheraton Hotels, the Lenox Hotel and others, with a concentration in Food and Beverage. I also have a BS in Hotel and Restaurant Administration. Never, ever, ever would I serve a "orange-like fruit juice". I offer a quality breakfast, served on fine china and get high remarks for the great Columbian coffee.

Lastly, this guest's rate was $109 per night.

The Motel is in an area about 2 miles from the town centre and you need a car to get to restaurants and shops. The motel is in a beautiful setting and there is plenty of seating outside to enjoy the views and the tranquillity. The reception area is quaint but very welcoming and the owner dealt with our party very efficiently. We had a room on the upper floor with access from the parking area or the reception area. The room was large and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean. The motel is along a main route but the traffic noise did not disturb us - we stayed on a Friday night so perhaps the traffic was less busy.
Breakfast was a great selection of cereals and beautiful breads.
The bedroom was generally clean but had large stains on the carpet. At breakfast next morning a large cat came into the dining area - we are animal lovers but do not expect to see them in an area where people are eating. What concerned us most was that the cat jumped up on one of the dining tables to get to a plant on a ledge further up. There was no one using the table but someone could have used it later. Overall the motel was satisfactory but quite expensive.

Jill and her staff are fabulous hosts. Breakfast room and fare are great. Location is very convenient for many day trips. Only wish the bed were more comfortable, but it did not lessen the enjoyment of our stay. And meeting Bradley Cooper was the "Cat's Meow" teehee.
