Places near Horseneck beach, for some reason is way cooler than inland. On a very hot you need a jacket in the evening. The place is super busy. The first night we waited about 1 and 1/2 hours, second night we had reservations. The pier has two cash bars, drinks and raw oysters. The view is superb and the breeze so refreshing. The restaurant has three sitting areas, outside ( limited), inside and on a three season porch. The outside has the benefit of the view, small tables only. The porch is semi breezy but the sun can blind you. Inside the place is extremely noisy. Is almost impossible to have a conversation. Actually that's fine as long you're interested in food. The appetizers are very good and the Wellfleet oysters are perfect quality. We had yellow tuna grilled pink inside. It came in an elaborate design with flowers, kim chi, grilled vegetables and ginger. An excellent meal. The fish and chips have thick pieces of haddock cooked to perfection with just the right amount of breading. The blue fish is an impressive dish with generous amounts of fish and side dishes. Probably the only and the best seafood place in the area. Recommended for food not for a romantic evening inside.

We have been going to the Back Eddy for years now, on date night, with the family, and for some special occasions. Each time we have had a great time and outstanding food. My favorite entree is the New Bedford Scallops wrapped in bacon with succotash. The deviled eggs prepared hot or sashimi style are a great app, as are the steamers or stuffed Quahogs. Drinks are well prepared. There is some outside seating, most inside seats have a nice view of the harbor as well. There is a stand at the end of the dock (you can drive your boat up, or take the car) that sells special food on the weekends. A couple weeks back they roasted a pig on a spit and served it with Sriracha and salad in a wrap as a snack, delicious. I disagree with the reviewer who said it was expensive, it is no more than any other high quality, local-ingredients place. This is a South Coast gem.

I've been here three times now, all around the July 4th weekend and its always a treat. The atmosphere is always lively and the place is always packed (make sure to make reservations, especially if you're a larger party!). The lobster casserole is amazing, the oysters with watermelon mignonette sauce were fresh and tasty, and the desserts are all great. Only docking one star because the server spilled wine all over the table, but was quick to clean it up and offer a complimentary drink to replace it.

We recently stopped by after spending the day at Horseneck Beach. We sat at the bar and ordered two lobster casserole to go. It was mid afternoon and not that busy yet but 20 minutes after we ordered the bar tender (who was very nice) said that the kitchen said they could not do anymore to go orders. I've had issues with this "kitchen" before when they would not allow any substitutions. I know they have a captive audience and the food I've had in the past is good, but they act like they have a Michelen star. Was planning a birthday lunch for 8 next weekend but am now going elsewhere.

I saw this place mentioned in a general Westport, MA review and it was described as "great place to get a cocktail and an app", a review that turned out to be incredibly accurate. Our first reaction was wow, this place is expensive but we were starving and ended up getting a full blown lunch with apps. Items of note were the shrimp cocktail, it was pretty decent with 4 really big shrimp. The serving of tuna tartare (sp?) was way to small, we get this all the time and this is the smallest portion yet, the flavor was excellent through. The swordfish, although a good portion and good flavor was unfortunately overcooked and dry. The service was excellent, our waitress was very friendly as was the hostess. The restaurant itself was very clean and had a bright airy interior. As for the location, you cannot beat it, it is literally on the water. Be careful because once you go out on that dock you may spend the entire day there, fantastic views of the boats and the water, it was just awesome. The only other downside of this place aside from it being too pricey is that it is not kid friendly, but I don't blame the restaurant for this. If you bring your kids you will feel the stares from people who thrive on being miserable even in a beautiful setting such as this one. I brought my two young kids not knowing this, they were with me the entire time and you would think they were screaming and running wild because some of the people on the dock (customers, not staff) were just downright rude, but something tells me even if there were no kids these people would still be miserable and rude. Anyway, moving on, the day we went there was live music on the deck and the girl we saw was excellent. The bartender in the outside tiki bar was very friendly and appeared to be loving life, hard not to in this spot. In summary, our visit wasn't perfect but is was good enough to make us want to come back here again, really cool spot.
