“Good but with issues”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

We were here for dinner, come
for lunch, views are beautiful!
Food was very good, we had the roast duck, we could have
split it. My husband very nicely asked our waitress to find out
what single malt scotches they
had at the bar, she would not
take the time or trouble to do so. They had 3( we went down after
dinner). Clearly, they cared more about huge family groups
celebrating birthdays. Not an
elegant, romantic place. Good if
you're in the area!

“Definitly worth a visit”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

I had lunch there twice this week.....both meals were good, the scenery is beautiful-our table was overlooking a lovely stream, the leaves were changing colors, the delivery of our meals was a little slow. If back in the area, I would definitely dine there again! A bonus is that they provide bread to feed the many ducks and gulls that frequent the pond......

Oh, if there at lunch, I strongly suggest the buffet, no wait, a great value (if you are hungry), includes dessert.

“Not what it used to be”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We stopped there for dinner around 5:10 PM tonight. We didn't have a reservation, so were told it would be approximately a 30 minute wait for a table (even though there were many empty tables). We were finally seated and it took about 10 minutes to get our water. When the waitress came back about 5 minutes later to take our drink order, we told her we were ready to order our meal. We got the hugest sigh and she asked why everyone was in such a rush....she further explained that it was going to be a long wait for our dinner anyway because the kitchen had a back up of slips....it was now about 6 PM so we decided to just leave. She actually seemed relieved!! I am sure the food would have been as good as always, but the place just isn't what it used to be.

“The Old Mill is just old!”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Went here for brunch because of the location, but should have gone somewhere else. Every dish on the buffet was cold. Our waitress let the chef know, but not one person came over to apologize or offer any compensation. For $18 you get some scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and pancakes that makes Denny;s look great. The other food was also poor. How do you carve cold ham and roast beef. The desserts were just some cut up brownies and other BJ's desserts along with some fruit. This place probably still exists because it has been there for a million years, but it really is a waste of money. $70 with tip for some cold food and average atmosphere for 3......

“A classic still worth it: idyllic setting inside and out with traditional food, well prepared.”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

The Old Mill was an institution when my 95-year-old mother went there on her honeymoon. So often, these types of places eventually take the easy path, kick back and become famous for being famous, as if restaurants were on Hollywood Squares. Maybe the Old Mill would slip down this slope were it in Boston or Philly or New York (New Orleans may be an exception; food there carries too much cultural weight to play second fiddle), but it's not. It's off the zoomway to western Mass -- not on the Mass Pike, not even on Route 2, but on Route 2A -- in rural Massachusetts and it has to work for a living.

No surprises on the menu. This is New England, not California. No fusion anything. Steaks, fish, meal-size salads, meaty chicken pot pie like you wish you grew up on, by-the-book French onion soup, pre-Weight Watchers pecan rolls. And portions for people who eat. All in charming, light-filled, wood and brick dining rooms with creaky uneven floors. It's a special place with lots of folks celebrating something, if only the beauty of New England and the joy of a nice ride with pleasant companions.
