Description: State Road opened in 2009 in the agricultural town West Tisbury on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Our interiors were designed by Michael S. Smith. Michael appointed unique American antiques throughout the restaurant and called on regional craftsman and artisans to create a warm and inviting contemporary tavern. In 2010 we planted herb, fruit and vegetable gardens on our grounds. We harvest from the gardens daily for our seasonally focused menus.

Ate here a few years ago and wanted to come back on our stay in the Vineyard this summer. Booked solid for dinner for all of August but got in at 9 pm off the wait list. Great modern, elegant, cool but homey decor. Excellent service. Cauliflower fritters to die for. Great fish. Nice wines. Perfectly lit. Makes for a wonderful, lingering evening up island. Can't beat it. Deserves the praise it gets.

Thank Pollll

After trying for weeks to get a reservation we ate for the first time at State Rd last night at 9:00. We are 30 yr residents of the island and frequent many of the islands restaurants. Over all the meal was great but our waitress had an attitude we could not shake- setting this aside we enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant can be loud and the tables are big so hearing can be a challenge . The decor is beautiful. The bartender recommended a great bottle of wine which he corked and chilled for us. The food was wonderful although the mussels were very small and gritty. Perhaps it was because we ate late and Got the remains? The chicken dish was flavorful and well presented and the scallops outstanding. Best part of the meal.... the goat milk Carmel which was dropped after we paid the check. It was yummy!!!
If they sold them by the door we would have bought bags as gifts. They were a real treat !!!

Overall a great meal but the waitress dampened things a bit too much so not sure we'll take the ride up island anytime soon .

This is our 4th visit to this restaurant - twice we walked away thinking it was terrific and twice just good. Hard to put our finger on what makes the difference since the menu over the last 3 years is basically the same. As an example, last year the lobster salad was exceptional. This year, though the exact same ingredients, the lobster was almost tasteless. My husband's spice rubbed monkfish was absolutely delicious as was the corn soup. The cauliflower fritters, which we had loved last year as well, were good but not great. Having been to the building in 3 different iterations, the current restaurant has done an amazing job with the space - elegant but warm and comfortable. Service is top notch. It used to be BYOB but can now serve wine and beer. Prices are very steep. On one of the nights that have been exceptional, its been worth it. On others, not so much. We're debating whether to take the chance again when we return to the Island next month. Maybe we'll wait til next year...

If you wish to eat here plan ahead as this place books up fast. The best we could get was an early evening reservation which turned out just fine.
The food and service was outstanding. There was enough variety on the menu to satisfy anyones palate.
We shall return.

Very limited menu. We were with a local who had recommended the Resturant and when we enquired as to where the proper lunch menu was, the waiter apologised and said everyone was complaining about it. Service was awful. As each one of us finished, the plated was snatched away, instead of waiting for us all to finish. The bill arrived before the last plate was cleared and before we had ordered deserts or coffee. They were in a rush to get us out. Not recommended for lunch
