Description: State Road opened in 2009 in the agricultural town West Tisbury on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Our interiors were designed by Michael S. Smith. Michael appointed unique American antiques throughout the restaurant and called on regional craftsman and artisans to create a warm and inviting contemporary tavern. In 2010 we planted herb, fruit and vegetable gardens on our grounds. We harvest from the gardens daily for our seasonally focused menus.

“Best restaurant on the Vineyard”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

Where to start? Everything was wonderful. We came early for a 7:30 reservation and was saeated right away by a congenial hostess. The wait staff was supremely competent but not at all stuffy. We shares a warm mushroom and frisée salad with lots of other intriguing textures and tastes. My husband had pan roasted cod and I pan roasted chicken with the most wonderful cheese gnocchi and sautéed lemon spinach. When I said I didn't particularly care for the broccoli rabe that was included with the chicken, our waitress offered to substitute another of the side dishes, no extra charge. The sauces were elegant and we sopped them up with the wonderful crispy crusted bread. Dessert was a caramel crime brûlée for him and a plate of simply spectacular cookies for me with really strong, perfectly brewed decaf coffee. We were never rushed, we were treated graciously. I only hope I can return someday.

“Up island gem”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

Excellent local sourced fresh and delicious food. A bit pricey but same as other places where food isn't as good. Check off season hours. Newly available beer and wine list. Parking no problem as they're up island.

“Top notch dining on the Vineyard”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Okay, I've been to the fancier destinations on the Island, but they don't hold a candle to the State Road. In lovely West Tisbury, just about 25 minutes from Edgartown and 15 from Vineyard Haven, you will find a very attractive place with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients and some serious technique. The menu is printed daily, so there are no specials. Everything is just wonderful. The bread is made on the premises, and though it wasn't really my idea of great bread (too gummy, no hard crust), it was tasty. Other than that, the green salad tasted like it had just been picked, and was perfectly dressed. The local seafood was so well and cleanly prepared, in a tasty, but not overwhelming base. The pear upside down cake and pumpkin cheesecake were tasty, relatively light, and utterly delicious, and the La Columbe coffee (a personal favorite it's hard to find on MV), was just perfect. The server couldn't have been more adorable, and was also efficient (not always two things that go together). On the way out, we noticed we were walking through a huge herb garden, and I'm sure that those found their way into our dinner. So it's a place owned by foodies, (who like their wine, apparently, because beer and a very pleasant wine list were available), just a little out of the way, which provides a delicious and lovely evening. What's not to love?

“Perfect dinner with the girls!”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

Girls weekend brought us to State Farm Restaurant for dinner last night. First, I wish I could move into this building. Tall post and beam construction, w a beautiful stone fireplace, perfectly lighted chandeliers, artisan decor and surrounding windows so you never feel confined. comfortable seating too. Now to the food....the salads were loaded w the freshest ingredients and each of them were completely unique and delicious. The rosemary bread and olive oil was soft, with the perfect flavor and amount the best bread I have ever had at any Restuarant...ever. Main meals were all amazing. Plentiful portions, super fresh farm veggies, great selection and cooked to perfection. Desserts were good too...service was perfect. For recap...here's some of the things we had(simplified)...wild rice salad, lobster cavatelli, cod, seafood bouillabaisse, pork, pumpkin cheesecake, flour less chocolate tort. Perfect night out with the girlfriends!
