Okay, I've been to the fancier destinations on the Island, but they don't hold a candle to the State Road. In lovely West Tisbury, just about 25 minutes from Edgartown and 15 from Vineyard Haven, you will find a very attractive place with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients and some serious technique. The menu is printed daily, so there are no specials. Everything is just wonderful. The bread is made on the premises, and though it wasn't really my idea of great bread (too gummy, no hard crust), it was tasty. Other than that, the green salad tasted like it had just been picked, and was perfectly dressed. The local seafood was so well and cleanly prepared, in a tasty, but not overwhelming base. The pear upside down cake and pumpkin cheesecake were tasty, relatively light, and utterly delicious, and the La Columbe coffee (a personal favorite it's hard to find on MV), was just perfect. The server couldn't have been more adorable, and was also efficient (not always two things that go together). On the way out, we noticed we were walking through a huge herb garden, and I'm sure that those found their way into our dinner. So it's a place owned by foodies, (who like their wine, apparently, because beer and a very pleasant wine list were available), just a little out of the way, which provides a delicious and lovely evening. What's not to love?
