Description: State Road opened in 2009 in the agricultural town West Tisbury on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Our interiors were designed by Michael S. Smith. Michael appointed unique American antiques throughout the restaurant and called on regional craftsman and artisans to create a warm and inviting contemporary tavern. In 2010 we planted herb, fruit and vegetable gardens on our grounds. We harvest from the gardens daily for our seasonally focused menus.

“Top notch dining on the Vineyard”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Okay, I've been to the fancier destinations on the Island, but they don't hold a candle to the State Road. In lovely West Tisbury, just about 25 minutes from Edgartown and 15 from Vineyard Haven, you will find a very attractive place with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients and some serious technique. The menu is printed daily, so there are no specials. Everything is just wonderful. The bread is made on the premises, and though it wasn't really my idea of great bread (too gummy, no hard crust), it was tasty. Other than that, the green salad tasted like it had just been picked, and was perfectly dressed. The local seafood was so well and cleanly prepared, in a tasty, but not overwhelming base. The pear upside down cake and pumpkin cheesecake were tasty, relatively light, and utterly delicious, and the La Columbe coffee (a personal favorite it's hard to find on MV), was just perfect. The server couldn't have been more adorable, and was also efficient (not always two things that go together). On the way out, we noticed we were walking through a huge herb garden, and I'm sure that those found their way into our dinner. So it's a place owned by foodies, (who like their wine, apparently, because beer and a very pleasant wine list were available), just a little out of the way, which provides a delicious and lovely evening. What's not to love?

“Perfect dinner with the girls!”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

Girls weekend brought us to State Farm Restaurant for dinner last night. First, I wish I could move into this building. Tall post and beam construction, w a beautiful stone fireplace, perfectly lighted chandeliers, artisan decor and surrounding windows so you never feel confined. comfortable seating too. Now to the food....the salads were loaded w the freshest ingredients and each of them were completely unique and delicious. The rosemary bread and olive oil was soft, with the perfect flavor and amount the best bread I have ever had at any Restuarant...ever. Main meals were all amazing. Plentiful portions, super fresh farm veggies, great selection and cooked to perfection. Desserts were good too...service was perfect. For recap...here's some of the things we had(simplified)...wild rice salad, lobster cavatelli, cod, seafood bouillabaisse, pork, pumpkin cheesecake, flour less chocolate tort. Perfect night out with the girlfriends!

“The best”
Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

The 14 year old down below (Yuck) needs to reapply to finishing school. This is one of the best restaurants around, never mind on the Rock. The service can be variable, but last night was excellent. The cheese platter was great, the fish outstanding and the homemade past delicious. Run don't walk, and make sure you have your reservations way in advance.

“First class dining, homey and friendly”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Excellent food, great choices, locavore palate and comfortable atmosphere. Waitstaff is excellent, helpful and well informed. Reservations essential. Located midisland, but well known locally as one of the best places to dine. Wines are available and excellent. Important to know as many places are BYOB. Very ample but creative menu with choices for everyone, all high quality. A friend living nearby also recommended highly their breakfasts.

“Finest Dining experience in Martha's Vineyard!”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

State Road is an outstanding restaurant that offers seasonally inspired food with warm hospitality. The experience begins with their offering of the very best of products and ingredients purveyed from farms locally as well as herbs and vegetables from their own garden. We were very much impressed with our server as well, who knew the menu extensively and could answer all the questions we put to her. It is so lovely to speak with someone who actually knows what she's serving. She was outstanding! There were four of us dining and all of our food was exquisitely prepared from the starters to the entrees. State Road did not miss a beat. Definitely, one of Martha's Vineyard most spectacular dining experiences! Kudo's to the chef and to the owners for putting together such a classy place to dine. Impeccably done!
