“Very cozy, friendly and good value.”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We have stayed at the Shaker Mill Inn several times and have always been extremely pleased. The owner is very friendly, the rooms cozy and home-like and the inn overall a great value for the area. Would highly recommend for a weekend or for a longer stay in the Berkshires.

I had reserved 2 nights at Shaker Mill Inn but after a few hours of enjoying the peaceful environment and the well-appointed accommodations, I decided to stay an extra night. The Innkeepers, Mary and Bob, are friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. I enjoyed the breakfast variety of quiche, yogurt or fresh fruit with additional pastries to snack on during the day. The grounds are very well kept and the room (Rockwell) was spotless. I would definitely recommend this Inn and am looking forward to returning. A wonderful place to stay! And, they allow pets!!

I was delighted to try an inn in this special small town. We took the catamount room. Ground floor, facing the front of the building. The room is high ceilinged and airy. Lots of large windows. There were two large queen sized beds, very comfortable. The couch and chair and coffee table are homey and comfortable. The small "dining" table is a nice touch. We stayed three nights and had no issues with noise. I felt, as always do in the Berkshires, that the room was overpriced. That is my only complaint. Right across the street is a breakfast place that makes killer egg white omelets. My only concerns would be the slightly musty smell that comes from a room that is built on a slab (I am a construction supervisor) and that is a problem with homes or portions of homes built on cement without a basement in New England. I enjoyed sitting on the couch and just listening to the sounds of nature and then that wonderful sudden quiet at around 2:00 PM on a summers day when all the birds and insects seem to take a nap. Lots of lovely flowers and plantings.

Room Tip: If you have issues with mobility be sure to book one of the ground floor rooms

The Shaker Mill Inn was more than we expected. Often websites and images seen on websites do not reflect the accommodations. This was not the case with the Shaker Mill. We stayed at the Inn for four nights with our dog. The Innkeepers Bob and Mary could not have been more hospitable. When we arrived, they were not on site but we found our welcome envelope and headed to our room. There was music playing and the lights were on. It was such a welcome sight after travelling all day. When we walked in, we found a basket filled with two dog towels, a bowl with dog treats and doggie bags! For the humans there was a complimentary bottle of wine and two glasses. Also in our room we had a wealth of tourist information for the surrounding areas from hikes with your dog to restaurant recommendations around the neighboring towns of Stockbridge, Lenox, Lee, and Great Barrington. There was even a list of places to take your dog for a bath if necessary!
We had almost everything we needed to feel at home, fireplace, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, and refrigerator. When I later met Mary, I asked if there was something available to boil water to make tea for my husband. She quickly brought down a tea kettle and some very fancy teas! With the tea kettle in hand we had everything we needed to feel at home. Our breakfast was an expanded continental. There were two baskets of baked goods, one regular and one gluten free. My husband enjoyed freshly baked croissants daily and delicious quiches that we heated in the toaster oven; I enjoyed gluten free granola each morning, and in my basket were many gluten free snacks for the rest of the day. We were equipped to make oatmeal, hot chocolate, coffee and tea… not just bagged tea but brewed loose leaf tea! We had orange juice and milk. The quiches and tarts were delicious and we did not feel like we missed a hot breakfast that was “served.”
In addition to the welcoming accommodations, the grounds around the inn were peaceful and inviting. We would definitely recommend this Inn and look forward to returning in the future. Of note, if you stay for four nights you get a discount! Highly recommended. Thanks Bob and Mary for being such wonderful hosts!!

Room Tip: We loved the Clark Room with skylight and deck. Great for guests with dogs!

This inn is a wonderful place to stay. It is class from the minute see the inn. Bob and Mary
cannot do enough for their guests. Our room was beautiful. There is nothing else Bob
and Mary could do to make their inn better. This is the perfect place to rest and relax. It is,
also, pet friendly. The grounds are beautiful and well kept.

This inn is ideal if you are attending a concert Tanglewood or just looking for a beautiful place to stay in the Berkshires. We booked for 4 nights and loved it so much that we plan to return for a long weekend next month. The room was very spacious and bed was very cozy and the best part was the outdoor living space. We had a largevsecluded garden patio with a table and chairs and a comfy sofa where in the evening we were able to enjoy a nice bottle of wine (supplied by the gracious innkeepers. Outstanding!

Room Tip: First floor rooms have patios or gardens a real plus

We spent 3 nights at the Shaker Mill Inn last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were in the Honeymoon Suite which is spacious, very well appointed, comfortable and a great space regardless of the season. The Inn itself is situated just off the road and has small outdoor space but what there is has lovely landscaping and lots of little spots to sit and read, nap in the hammock, have breakfast on your patio, etc...

Bob and Mary are warm and welcoming, without being the least bit invasive. The Inn is kind of a hybrid - more than a hotel, not quite a full-on B&B experience. So if you're someone like myself, who doesn't always love shared meals and common space but who is looking for something more personal than a hotel, this could be a great option. The rooms were spotless, the linens were nice (I have a thing for good bed linens), and we had a kitchenette, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, pull-out couch, etc... Everything we needed and then some.

My only suggestion would be that the breakfast pastries that are provided are lovely (fresh and more than ample) but after a couple of days we found ourselves wishing for fruit or yogurt/granola - something other than buttery carbs. But that's a nice problem to have and there are places within walking distance to get something more and stock the fridge.

The Inn is in the very tiny town of West Stockbridge - so just a bit off the normal beaten paths but very well located for everything we wanted (Tanglewood, hiking, antiquing, Stockbridge/Lenox/Great Barrington, etc...) and easy to get in and out of. Last weekend Stockbridge itself was a zoo w/ a crafts festival so it was really nice not to be in the thick of tour bus craziness. West Stockbridge only has a couple of restaurants for dinner, and a few more options for daytime meals, but they were more than ample for our stay. It was great to be able to just stroll to dinner (after enjoying a glass of the complimentary bottle of wine on the deck) and have a lovely meal. Such a relaxing, pleasant stay - I would definitely stay at the Shaker Mill Inn again and recommend it to friends.

Many of the deck areas are shared, and some of the rooms combine internally as well so it seems like the kind of place where it would be great fun to come with a small group of friends or family.

Room Tip: Like any B&B there is significant variation in room details so take a careful look at the Inn...
