Our senior trip of the month included a tour of the Quabbin Park followed by lunch at the Salem Cross Inn restaurant. I didn't realize that the restaurant is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The tour guide who works at the Salem Cross Inn met us and gave a wonderful, informative narrative of the surrounding towns and Quabbin Reservoir. Once we got back to the restaurant, my choice was the pot roast. I can't remember getting such a generous portion of meat smothered in gravy, whipped potatoes and squash in any other restaurant. Even if you were full, you had to make room for the scrumptious dessert. The wait service was incredible - there was no waiting for anything. Before you could even think of something else you might need, someone was at your table. I'm sure they were so confident that we were all pleasantly surprised with the service and meal that they kept coming over to the table. How could anyone complain? It was a warm, sunny day but I can only envision how beautiful this setting will be in a couple of weeks when the leaves begin to change colors. Be sure to walk outside to see the beautiful vegetable, flower and herb gardens before you drive away.
