“Great Italian in Watertown”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

Dined at Grappa a few nights ago and had a very nice experience. Yes it is a small place that is tucked away on a little street behind Target, but it is worth finding! And much easier parking compared to the North End :)

Glad I made reservation, there are probably 10-12 tables total in the restaurant, and it was completely full on a weeknight. FYI, the online menu gives the impression that they only serve beer and wine, but they actually do have a full bar.The mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce appetizer was delicious, as well as the pasta dishes - I recommend the fettuccine bolognese. My boyfriend got one of the specials - orecchiette with sausage and vegetables. It was good, but we agreed that my fettuccine was the winner. We'd definitely go back!

“Don't be scared by outside”
Reviewed June 27, 2014

Across from Target, beside auto body shops, chipping paint--the exterior might scare you off. But be brave and step inside. You'll feel far from Target and Watertown in general. You will need a reservation--place is packed, even on week nights.

Second visit--both times we've had great carafes of wine, great pasta. Bruschetta heaped with tomatoes. Warm bread drizzled in oil while you wait. Everything is delicious and portions are generous.

Leave the cannoli, though. It wasn't filled all the way through and though it was fresh-filled, the filling was meh. Not ricotta, not quite sure what it was but it was gross.

“Make a reservation!”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

This place is a hidden gem, but certainly a hole in the wall. There are so few tables and such a small space, it's surprising that it's so popular! The service is almost painfully slow, but very friendly. But the food is worth the wait. I went with a moderate sized family party and can't say I tried anything there that was less than delicious. Make sure you bring your wallet because it is pretty expensive. Definitely a good place for a special occasion, very quaint and intimate. Make sure you make a reservation, far in advance!!!!!

“Slow garlic”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

We had a great time having dinner the other night with some close friends. It was a good thing that the conversation was lively, because the service was glacially slow, almost ten minutes just to get menus and a long wait for our main courses, which came two at a time instead of all together. The stuffed mushrooms appetizer touted on their website is only for real garlic lovers, and the bread was inedible unless you love, love, love garlic. Fortunately, my chicken piccata was very good. Both the chicken and linguini were cooked properly, and the sauce had just the right amount of lemon and butter.

“Not worth the trip”
Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

We went here based on previous reviews and it was not worth the trip! The service was slow and the food was below average at best. We had the shrimp diablo and clams and fettuccini and was not good to be polite! The sauce was the equivalent of jarred sauce! Would not return!!!
