Winter landscape of white outside, and spectacular warmth and color inside! Winter is the season of Camellias! The colors and slight fragrance refresh one's senses. As you enter the greenhouses, citrus plants, brick walls, orchids and a ceiling of beautiful Bougainvillea welcome the visitor. Stepping into the greenhouses is like stepping back in time. The character of the Lyman Estate is preserved and one can only image what it might have been like in 1739-1839, these greenhouses being among the oldest in the country. Vines from London still grow here today. The Orchid House is bright and the Camellia House has camellia trees over 100 years old with gorgeous blossoms from Dec to March! Don't forget to visit the sales house to purchase plants and meet Chieko, one of the nicest volunteer ever!
