Owner description: Gore Place is a 50-acre country estate in the city, a grand mansion steeped in history, a working farm, and an invaluable community resource. The Gores built their home in 1806. With the help of a Parisian architect, Rebecca planned the Federal-style mansion — a rare opportunity for a woman of the time. The Gores filled the house with locally made furniture and beautiful art, much of which remains in place today. Gore Place is located at 52 Gore St. in Waltham, just nine miles from the heart of Boston. The grounds are open to the public as a community resource. Tours: Monday through Friday on the hour at 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, and 2 pm Saturdays on the hour at 12, 1, 2, and 3 pm Sundays: Closed

“A great mansion built in 1805”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

If you're near Waltham, MA make it a point to visit Gore Place.Great architecture dating back to the 1800s. Much of the furniture and decor inside the mansion is original. The mansion served as a summer home for Christopher and Rebecca Gore until 1816, when they began to live rhere year round. The architecture of the mansion was influenced by English and French buildings that Rebecca had seen and adnmired during their time in Europe. The grounds are magnificent with very old trees throughout. The 45-minute tour is informative and very interesting.

“Scenic views right in Waltham”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

You won't find another house or estate like this in the greater Boston Area. Walking the grounds takes you back to the 1800's and you feel like you just stepped through a history book.

“A MARK IN TIME”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

The grounds of the Gore Estate are beautiful, and many old traditions were handed down by the Gore's. It is a family place to go and learn about some marked history.

“Moonlight Tour”
Reviewed April 26, 2012

The tour of the house after dark was great fun. They tell you about life before electricity but not too much about the general history of the estate. I guess I will have to go back for that and attend a tour in regular business hours.

“A historic gem in an unlikely location”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

Went with my 8th grade son for an extra credit project. We've been to outdoor events here, but previously never toured the inside. Very impressive! If you are in the area, definitely worth the tour.
