Description: Il Capriccio serves a constantly changing Northern Italian menu featuring local products with an award winning Italian wine and Grappa list. Though long considered a local secret, Il Capriccio has been the number one Northern Italian restaurant in Zagat's for the past seven years. The wine list has been featured in Decanter, Sante, Wine & Spirits and Stuff. The same menu is served in the Bar. We like to serve great food and great wine in a comfortable setting.

“Great wine list to accompany solid Italian cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2012

Il Capriccio was a pleasant surprise for my fiance and I. We walked by it the other night while on a pub crawl, and at the same time said we should try that place. Fast forward 4 nights and we arrive for our 8:30 reservation half an hour early. The hostess (very pleasant) seats us in the corner at a double, and we are surrounded by loud groups of 4-6 people. We decide to grab the menu's and make the trek to the bar. It was a lot more quiet, more spacious, and we had the opportunity to discuss the wine list with Jason, the in house wine guru. We ordered the 09 Gaja Promis ($85), which is a steal compared to Grill 23 ($120) and The Capital Grille ($115). After the wine was opened and we let it breath, Jason reccomended the zuchinni (spelling?) stuffed flowers, and the wild boar sausage. The sausage was amazing, and is made in house! After our appetizers we ordered the Vermont wild rabbit ravioli in a porcini sauce. Some of the best tasting raviolis I have had on this side of the Atlantic. We were going to order dinner, but were both full from the great food and even better wine. If you are in Waltham, or do not want to make the trip and pay for parking in the North End, Il Capriccio is definitely worth trying!

“Downtown gourmet food (and prices!) in a MetroWest location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

Had not dined there in a while, and was pleasantly surprised at the friendly and helpful attitude of the staff (years ago they tended to be a bit stuffy and condescending for me). Got a bit of help with a wine selection before our other guests arrived - very good value and well received by my Italian (yes, from Italy!) guests. Even they were impressed with the quality of the food - seared fois gras (we're not in CA!), zucchini flowers for appetizers, wild mushroom fettuccine secondi and a variety of entrees we ordered. Interestingly, no red meat on the menu. For me, the food quality and preparation rivals anything you will find in a top-rated downtown Boston restaurant. The prices, though, are the same as those found in the high-rent urban locations. Great restaurant for very special guests and occasions. Seating was cramped, though, and that made talking (and listening) somewhat difficult. I was filling water glasses for my guests, a minor annoyance but an indication of some lack of attention or under-staffing.

“Quiet and totally satisfying”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2012

l've only dined here twice. Bothe times were delicious, satisfying dinners out with friends.
The restaurant is divided up into small dining areas, so the place is never really loud, and encourages conversation which, of course, is half the fun of eating.
The wine list is extraordinary and the wine steward was really helpful in picking out a memorable red from Sardinia.
We had rabbit, lobster and pork tenderloin and scrumptious choco desserts. Every one was a bullseye.
What a rare treat!

“a little taste of Italy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2012

What a lovely restaurant! The waiter was extremely attentive and prompt to respond to our requests. We ordered a bottle of wine that was recommended and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Although it wasn't necessary, we started w/the beet & goat cheese salad (shared it) and it was delicious! Then we had a small portion of pasta that preceded our entrees. Everything we ate was superb! Although a bit pricy, it was worth every dime!
