“Very friendly, clean, comfortable, all around, excellent place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

We try to come to Martha's Vineyard twice a year. This trip was our third time at the Mansion House and will stay here again when, hopefully, when we come back in October.
The Mansion House is very clean , the beds are so comfortable, the staff is very friendly and helpful, it is in a great location and they have a great fitness center with a pool.
We stayed in a King deluxe room that was very large with a kitchenette, good size closet, and a balcony with a table & two chairs. It has several windows and all the furnishings are of good quality.

Beautiful room overlooking the harbor. Clean, comfortable, and the staff is outstanding. My wife and I look forward to staying there again. The hotel is located very close to the ferry terminal and is an easy walk to the Black Dog Tavern which is a great place to eat.

Room Tip: Ask for a waterview room when booking. They are in the rear of the hotel and are very quite since...

We went for an overnight getaway.
Got there right before noon and our room was ready.
Walked around town and found a seafood place - The Net Result - delicious scallops and oysters.
Great staff; friendly, helpful, welcoming.
Offered places to go and restaurants open at this time of year.
We love this place!

My sister and I were called to Martha's Vineyard by our Aunt who had been unexpectedly rushed to the hospital on a recent Sunday. We arrived after a long trip from Western Mass. and a ferry ride with the car to the hospital. We quickly realized that we would have to stay the night and close by to the hospital. The Mansion House was the only place for us to stay. As it was off season this lovely hotel was reasonably priced and we were happy to be there. The hotel is beautiful and the people working there were so nice to us. Our room was beautifully decorated and had a balcony overlooking the rooftops to the bay in Vineyard Haven. We spent a sad night in just lovely surroundings. The bed (they only had one king room) was incredibly comfortable, we wanted to take the pillows home with us. We had delicious burittos from a little shop right across the street. I'm sorry that I don't remember the name of the place, but you can't miss it if you stay. The continental breakfast was nothing fancy but just what we needed. We would love to return here for a real vacation sometime. You can't park on the street overnight so you have to drive around back - be careful if you have a low car - big holes in road. We didn't use any of the amenities or the pool but everything look great. Lovely hotel.

We came for a one night relaxation and to see something different. Great location- walking distance to ferry, easy to get a bus to other towns. Room was clean, comfy, and private. It was very quiet except some light, off season repairs being done in the morning that we could hear through the walls. But the front desk was very apologetic and the noise stopped right away. It rained all weekend so we were thankful for the access to the indoor pool, hot tub, steam room, and sauna at no additional charge. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. Loved the old photos in the halls and the interior decorating. Complimentary continental breakfast was much better than what most affordable hotels offer. I will definitely return.

Room Tip: Dog friendly hotel- wanted to bring our dog, but dogs are not allowed to stay in the room by him/her...

This is my third time staying at the Mansion House and each time it is better than the last. The front desk professionals are welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was a full buffet of freshly prepared hot and cold foods. The gust room was quiet and comfortable. It was designed for relaxing. Thanks!

We have stayed at the Mansion House 2x in the past few years, and both visits were in the off season. Our first stay there was great - we loved the cheery room, the little balcony, the guest robes, the exercise amenities and pool. The food at their restaurant is meh, at best, given the choice of other quality dining options on the island. We booked our second stay well in advance, and 2 days before we left for the Vineyard we received an email from the Mansion House advertising a special "1/2 price weekend" (for the weekend we had booked). So, we called and they would not honor their special to us because it was reserved for last minute travelers only. It was a bum deal and their explanation only made it worse. They did upgrade us to a large suite on the top floor, but we were bothered by the way it all went down. We felt like we were being punished for planning ahead. Apparently, it's better to spontaneously wing it and that's where you'll get the deals. Cosmetically, the building is in dire need of a new exterior paint job, and there is noticable shoddy patch work to the guest room walls -- our suite had a tv hung above the gas fireplace with a gaping hole in the wall that wasn't even patched up, and we noticed a couple of other wall dings that were otherwise very easy to repair. The bathroom faucet was very loose and wobbly, and we had to turn it on/off very gently. If I were an unsuspecting summer traveler paying top dollar for this type of room, I would have been pretty sour about it. I lived/worked on the island for several summers and have been visiting there for over 25 years, and this building is an architectural gem -- but it needs some serious TLC in order to command such rates with a good conscience (particularly in-season rates).

InnkeeperMV, Owner at Mansion House, responded to this review, February 22, 2013
Hotels have sales, just like the Holiday Sales that we are all familiar with. Many retailers only have specials on Black Friday and by Cyber Monday the deal does not exist. We responded to the writer above with a significant upgrade, from a Standard King to a King Deluxe with water views, balcony, wet bar, soaking tub, two TV’s and a 4 piece bathroom. I am sorry that the upgrade did not make this returning couple feel better about staying at the Inn. Also our apologies that the room was not what they expected. Mansion House remains busy through Christmas and then we go room by room and get rid of all "dings". But every room that is booked should meet our standards and I apologize that this room needed paint. I hope that the other parts of their holiday worked out. Although our winter rate is less than half of the popular summer season, every guest reservation and opinion is important to us. Many returning guests prefer the "off" season as they agree that the beauty of the Vineyard exists year round. I hope this couple continues to return to the Vineyard. Our web site has a "Specials" page with last minute internet offers. Thank you.
