We have been to the Blue Heron many many times, and have found it always a wonderful evening of food and ambience. The new venue in Sunderland center is great if you sit downstairs, and we've come to enjoy sitting at the bar later in the evening since the appetizers and salads are much more consistently creative and good. The dirty blue martini is also wonderful, as we wend our way home along the Connecticut River in Hatfield.

I have dined at the Blue Heron twice, once back when it was in Montague, the other at it's present location in Sunderland. Both times I and my dinner compainions were not impressed. Expensive, and food was not very good. My father was going to get us a gift certificate to the Heron, and we told him not to bother.

Locally recommended, this wonderful, charming, classy and big (there is a large upstairs room) restaurant was well received by all five of us who had the pleasure of eating there during "graduation week" in the Amherst area. Good selection of wines by the glass and cocktails, and fabulous appetizers, while the main dishes went 4-for-5 in the cuisine home run dept (the trout was a little dry). The evening was made especially wonderful by our waiter, who was attentive, knowledgeable, and an obvious pro. Like the colleges in the surrounding area, this restaurant is expensive but worth it.

Three of us dined on a week night at the Blue Heron and were pleased with all aspects of the experience. My favorite dish is jsut about anything with salmon, so I ordered a delicious salmon filet with perfectly steamed broccolli and couscous. One of the other 2 diners also ordered the salmon, and the other ordered a pork dish. Both said that their meals were delicious, too. We ordered appetizers, too, and were equally pleased with the quality. Our server was attentive and unobtrusive: She checked on us twice, and filled our glasses w/o being asked. About 10 minutes after our plates had been cleared and we had finished our cafe, she brought the check. We talked for about another 15 minutes, she refilled our cups, and then we paid the check. Delicious food, professional service, nice atmosphere!

A treasure in the heart of New England countryside. Love the salmon and creative hors d'oeuvres. Beautiful ambiance and love the service staff. Bartender mixes a mean Harvey Wallbanger
