Description: Longfellow's Wayside Inn is a unique part of the historic landscape of Massachusetts, and the oldest operating American Inn. Featuring an authentic building style and traditional New England food, we offer the ideal location for romantic nights out, banquets, family events, company parties, and weddings. Our menu provides exceptional quality at great value, including hearty portions and seasonal foods. We encourage our guests to spend a day with us, touring the serene and historic grounds, enjoying a drink in our 300-year old Tavern, and settling in for dinner in one of our historic rooms. We have an open patio in the warmer months, and lit fireplaces through winter.

We have eaten at this restaurant many times and always enjoy being seated in the Tap Room. The food is basic New England fare and is for the most part very good. The offerings for the Sunday dinner specials are not as extensive as the last time we ate here and there was no cheese and crackers to go with our drinks, either. The vegetable choice always seems to be winter squash, not my favorite, and this time a very generous amount of the vegetable was just plopped on the plate. In the past it has been served in its own individual dish. The offerings on the regular menu were extensive and we were all happy with our choices, duck, scallops, and swordfish. The inn, which is usually beautifully decorated for the holidays, did not have one Fall item to indicate the season. Perhaps these subtle changes are not new since our last visit was over a year ago. However, they did detract from our overall dining experience which in the past has been better.

This inn is the real deal-----old floors and decor, small rooms with intimate tables, fireplaces in the rooms. Some of the meals are better than others. My husband LOVED the filet with lobster while the prime rib was a big chewy and tough. The portions are adequate and the prices are reasonable. Would dine here again when in the area!

We come here every year for my birthday in October. Lovely, warm atmosphere that oozes New England history and charm. Cuisine is traditional New England: Lobster Pie, Prime Rib, Surf and Turf - mouth watering delicious.

Great food, great history, and very beautiful. Worth a visit. Watch yourself though, rumors are that there's a ghost or two lingering in the halls (and some rooms).
