Description: B.T.'S Smokehouse is a dry-rubbed and slow-smoked barbecue restaurant located in the downtown section of Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Owner and Head Chef Brian Treitman is committed to delivering the very best barbecue to Massachusetts and beyond. Focusing on Southern-style cuisine, the menu offers natural grass-fed beef, chicken, pork, and other meats that have been dry rubbed and slow smoked for up to 24 hours with local apple and hickory woods. In addition to standard barbecue fare, the restaurant also offers more unusual entrees such as smoked salmon, chili made with brisket meat, and smoked turkey and chicken. We are also BYOB, so grab your favorite 6 pack on your way in. B.T.'S has won numerous awards since opening its doors, including the New England Regional Chili Cookoff and placing in the Top Ten Barbecue Restaurants in New England, and the Boston Globe named B.T.'S one of the "ten best places to bask in barbecue".

“BBQ meets CIA. The smoke beckons you to carnivore heaven.”
Reviewed October 2, 2011

WOW. WOW. WOW. As other reviewers noted, the tiny interior has 3 booths, a few stools at the counter and several picnic tables for outdoor eating. It was a rainy Sunday; even then, the indoor tables turned over quickly enough. Most folks grab a soft drink or crack open a cervesa and chat with other patrons while waiting. It’s BYOB though, so stop at the package store up the street if you want a cold one. There is a brisk take out business bustling in and out.

The size of the restaurant doesn’t matter because the magic happens in the kitchen and in the smoker. The atmosphere is: order at the counter from the blackboard, grab your tray when called, eat and go. We each had a double meat platter for lunch: I had the pulled pork and brisket with collards and slaw (not New England slaw with mayo but dressed with a nice vinaigrette) the tray comes with nice fresh corn bread. Everything was yummy. The brisket was juicy-melt-in-your-mouth outstanding!

There are a variety of house made wet sauces to sample and mix – a perfect complement to the dry rub with which the meats are cooked. I came hungry and couldn’t finish my meal – the portions are generous. I shopped a few hours while in town, and on the way back passed it again – stopped back in for a TO GO plate to share at home knowing that my leftovers would be a tease. Did double brisket, black eyed peas and greens this round. The brisket is THAT good. The staff even remembered that I been to lunch earlier and seemed delighted that I came back for more to share.

There are huge glass apothecary jars of homemade beef jerky on the counter– like you might see licorice sticks in a candy shop. The peppered meat looked incredible! Dreaming about it - until next time…

“Thought it was average”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

The menu for meat lovers is expansive, but I think they need to include some other chicken or non-meat options. If you're avegetarian and your going with a group, there isn't much on the menu for you. I do have to say that the onion rings are probably the best I've ever had. Both my husband and I thought the food was just average at this restaurant, but maybe we need to go again since so many of the reviews were positive. I did think it needs to be better cleaned though...

“It's Smokin'”
Reviewed August 7, 2011

We have been living in the US for over a year and this was one of the best eating experiences we've had here. The food is outstanding, and prepared with care, skill, and great enthusiasm by the chef. Everything -- including the cole slaw and other salads and pickles -- are prepared in-house. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. And the prices are amazing. Our ribs dinner with drinks came to significantly less than $50. Don't miss this place.

“Savory BBQ at reasonable prices, and you're with the locals”
Reviewed July 22, 2011

I really like this place. It's a great place to stop for dinner if you're driving along Rte. 84. 1 mile from the exit and you're in a local, comfortable, friendly hole in the wall where you can watch the chef cook up some really good BBQ fare. A huge variety of barbecue sauces to choose from, salt and pepper-dusted french fries (yum!), and very generous portions.

I had a tossed salad in a crispy taco bowl. I watched it being made to order. It was huge -- I couldn't finish -- and had plenty of fresh vegetables. The macaroni and cheese -- also made to order -- is rich and creamy and delightful. Stick with the small portions of the side dishes so you can sample a lot.

I really liked the atmosphere too. It's tiny and you can sit on a stool at the counter and watch your food being made. There are picnic tables out front. You wait a bit too long for your food but everyone's super friendly and the restaurant is clearly a local favorite.

“Best pulled pork in New England”
Reviewed July 21, 2011

This is the best pulled pork I have had in New England! The sandwiches are huge, and the prices are reasonable. They make their own sauces and soda as well. BTs is clearly popular with locals and tourists alike. There is outdoor and indoor seating. The service is good, but as a popular location for take out and eat in, the wait for food can be a bit long.
