WOW. WOW. WOW. As other reviewers noted, the tiny interior has 3 booths, a few stools at the counter and several picnic tables for outdoor eating. It was a rainy Sunday; even then, the indoor tables turned over quickly enough. Most folks grab a soft drink or crack open a cervesa and chat with other patrons while waiting. It’s BYOB though, so stop at the package store up the street if you want a cold one. There is a brisk take out business bustling in and out.
The size of the restaurant doesn’t matter because the magic happens in the kitchen and in the smoker. The atmosphere is: order at the counter from the blackboard, grab your tray when called, eat and go. We each had a double meat platter for lunch: I had the pulled pork and brisket with collards and slaw (not New England slaw with mayo but dressed with a nice vinaigrette) the tray comes with nice fresh corn bread. Everything was yummy. The brisket was juicy-melt-in-your-mouth outstanding!
There are a variety of house made wet sauces to sample and mix – a perfect complement to the dry rub with which the meats are cooked. I came hungry and couldn’t finish my meal – the portions are generous. I shopped a few hours while in town, and on the way back passed it again – stopped back in for a TO GO plate to share at home knowing that my leftovers would be a tease. Did double brisket, black eyed peas and greens this round. The brisket is THAT good. The staff even remembered that I been to lunch earlier and seemed delighted that I came back for more to share.
There are huge glass apothecary jars of homemade beef jerky on the counter– like you might see licorice sticks in a candy shop. The peppered meat looked incredible! Dreaming about it - until next time…
