Publick House Historic Inn

While returning home from a trip to NH, my husband and I decided to stop at the Publick House for Sunday brunch. We have been here many times before and always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The restaurant was extremely busy with a wedding party from the night before. Even though we did not have reservations, the staff was gracious and quickly set up a smaller room for us (and two other parties that came right after us). We enjoyed ourselves as usual until one of the other parties called the supervisor over to make what seemed to us to be ridiculous complaints (coffee not served fast enough, staff not nearly attentive enough). After hearing them out, the supervisor was nice enough to give them their meal at no charge, but in talking to the other diners in the room we all agreed that this was a shameless ploy to get a free breakfast (which they seemed to really enjoy). It is a shame that people pull scams like this to get free meals. Keep up the good work - we will always come back!

We have been to the Publick House for dinner a few times, each experience was great. I was surprised with a ring and we were engaged at this location. So we decided to also get married there. Our wedding could not have been any better, the atmosphere was very cozy, the food was amazing as always. And the consultants that helped us were the best, they bent over backwards to help with everything we could possibly want or need. Not one person from my entire wedding had one negative thing to say about this place. We also stayed for the night in the Inn, our room was very very nice. Our entire experience was worth every penny!

The Public House Inn and Motor Lodge in Sturbridge, MA is a hidden jewel. My wife and I stay there whenever we are in the area. The rooms are clean, spacious, and well cared for. My wife enjoys the balconies attached to each room, and we love the colonial wallpaper... a reminder of historic New England.

In the mornings we sit in the colonial room enjoying the fire in the fireplace while drinking one of the 8 flavored fresh-brewed coffees. The blueberry muffins and other pastries from the onsite bakery are fantastic, and along with the coffee are included in the room rate. The pecan rolls are especially excellent. One caution don't walk by the bakery, or you will be guaranteed to leave with some exquisite baked goods!

The staff has always made our stay something special, and I would highly recommend the Inn to anyone looking for lodging in the area. Rev Harold and Dorothy Small

We have been visiting the Publick House for 30 years and have never been disappointed!
Great food, great service and an atmosphere that we love. Last weekend's visit came complete with the Sturbridge Chritmas tree lighting on the green. Talk about a Norman Rockwell moment!
Love this place!

Room Tip: If you stay in the Inn it is not unusual to wake up to the heavenly smell of cinnamon rolls cooking...

My wife and I have been coming to The Publick House for about the last 20 years and plan at least 2-3 visits per year. Depending on the time of year we will either stay in the lodge or the Chamberlain House or the Historic Inn itself. As you can imagine, many things have happened in those years, however, the most comforting thing is that we always leave feeling the same thing, we can't wait to come back! We have seen many upgrades to the property, all in keeping with the period, and Michelle Rondeau has done an excellent job renovating many of the rooms. Michelle has also been extremely helpfull with booking our stays particullarly with the increased popularity of this inn. I do advise advanced bookings. The staff at the inn has always been professional, polite, and in some cases, become friends that we look forward to seeing. The surrounding area has also been a reason for returning, from the shops and eateries to Old Strubridge Village, were we are members. We have stayed in many places through out New England, none as heartwarming as this. We can't wait to come back!

We have been coming here for years for Holiday Festivities, Great Food and Lodging.
For the past several years, we have added a long Halloween "weekend" at the Inn, to our
list of things we look forward to doing each year.

The meals in the Historic Inn are always well prepared and presented. Classic Early American Colonial favorites and desserts, make it difficult to decide which to select! But we manage to do it. We prefer the main dining room in the Inn (Tap Room) with an extremely large fireplace and a wonderful colonial atmosphere.

Although there are many authentic guest rooms in the inn, we prefer staying in the motor lodge buildings, where we have lots of room to spread out, and wonderful views of the property and the surrounding area.

The wait staff in the Inn, and the Inn registration staff are consistently very friendly and helpful.

We were saddened last year when the entire Sturbridge area was without power and we could not be here, but compared to the terrible losses many have suffered from Hurricane Sandy, we are fortunate to once again enjoy this special get-a-way!
