Description: The Lion's Den pub, located downstairs at The Red Lion Inn, offers entertainment seven nights a week, and never a cover charge. There's different entertainment each night, with regular appearances by local performers including David Grover, the Sun Mountain Fiddler, and the Housatonic Philharmonic, offering everything from acoustic folk to R&B, and reggae to the blues. Some nationally recognized performers have been known to grace our humble pub stage from time to time - James Taylor, Lauren Ambrose and Roger Salloom among them.On chilly nights ask for a table by the fireplace and enjoy a genuine pint of ale or stout, a glass of your favorite wine, or a mug of hot mulled cider - all accompanied by our classic pub fare. The Lion's Den is open (until 1 a.m. on weekends), with entertainment from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and entertainment from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. House guests can access the Lion's Den through the Tavern, or by entering beneath the red awning on Main Street.

“Worth visiting just for the atmosphere and excellent beer on tap.”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

Beneath the historic and beautiful Red Lion Inn you will find the Lion’s Den. It’s like a step back in time and you would not be surprised to encounter a few Minute Men hoisting tankards of ale inside after a long day’s watch in the nearby forests. But fortunately for us, the ale and the kitchen have been brought up to date.

After a day of strolling through Berkshire towns, it was time to quench our thirst and have a bite to eat. Since we had been here before, we knew what to expect and looked forward to our return. We started with pints of Lion’s Ale and a Barrington Brewery’s Hopland Pale Ale ($7 each). Both were excellent thirst quenchers for a warm Summer day.

The menu is brief, but varied enough to offer something for just about everyone. My wife selected the French Style Bratwurst with fresh kraut ($12). It was a good sized wurst served in a hotdog bun with kraut, field greens, house-made chips, and a coarse, country-style mustard on the side. Our server at the bar explained that “French Style” meant that there were more herbs in the wurst. It was delicious and filling.

I chose the Saturday pub special, Lila’s Mt. Lamb Shepherd’s Pie ($10). Apparently, the lamb is raised nearby in Stockbridge and that might explain why I did not notice any gamey flavor in the dish served to me in a shallow cast iron frying pan. It had really nice flavors with some corn, beans, potatoes and ground meat (lamb) topped with cheese.

The atmosphere will always make this a favorite of ours. Good food and good service will keep us coming back.

“please see review posted”

The service and overall stressed out wait staff or the under staffing of wait staff was noticeable. We were forced to leave unhappy due to a condescending manager/waiter who thought waiting for a table after 1pm for luncheon after drining in from Connecticut was acceptable. Tourist's should be treated better after all without the service industry being top notch. Everyone is out of business I don't care how much history you claim.

“Great food with a history”
Reviewed July 16, 2014

The Lion's Den attracts locals and tourists alike. It is located in the basement of the Red Lion Inn. The menu is simple yet elegant. They have some wonderful salads with house made dressings. If you want to try a twist on a hot dog, they have one (you get 2) that is homemade. It has a slight smokey flavor and the skin is very thin. Service is always good here. Keep in mind on nights when they have live entertainment it gets full early. Its also always fun to go the the bathroom here, because on your way you see old pictures of people that have come to visit and the area.

“Maybe it had a bad night.”
Reviewed July 9, 2014 via mobile

It sucked. Absolutely terrible. Food was eh. But Tue device was horrendus . maybe I got a bad day at the pub or something but the ONE waiter that was there was unattentive and forgetful. Didn't refill drinks. Our shrimp was under cooked. The only good thing was the atmosphere.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I can honestly say we had an off night. I spoke to the cook who in haste sent out a product he shouldn't have and to a young server who through your comments now realizes the importance of his attention! We are not perfect by any means, but we are very good at what we do and the other comments on this page as weel as our repeat business show that. I do apologize and hope that you will give us another try.

Sincerely, Brian

“Good food. Great service.”
Reviewed July 6, 2014 via mobile

I was last at the pub almost 15 years ago without kids so I wasn't sure what to expect taking my kids there for dinner.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn they have a children's menu. The service and desserts were great and all were happy with the meal!!

Would definitely recommend for anyone.
