Saddly, my dad passed away in November and I had booked 2 weeks vacation from work because we were hosting Thanksgiving in our home for 33. The second week was for relaxation. I had previously received notification of a Travel Zoo special and my husband and I decided this would be a good chance to get away after a busy wake, funeral and Thanksgiving. We had read reviews for The Red Lion Inn that were OK, but were very impressed with the reviews for the 1862--so that was the choice we made. Camillo couldn't have been nicer and made several contacts with us in preparation for our stay. We stayed at the 1862 during the first weekend in December He welcomed us warmly and took us on a tour of the B&B and then let us settle in. Our room was GORGEOUS! Warm and comfy --what a beautiful bedroom with gas fireplace--a cozy throw on the bed with a Berkshire Bark chocolate bar to welcome us--doesn't get much better than that! And such a bathroom and cedar closet--much bigger that our own bathroom at home! I'm a girly-girl at heart and to have Old Country Roses china set for breakfast and what felt/looked like antique crystal for juice was simply grand. Paul was our chef and made every effort to prepare food for the gods. Such a selection, with homemade pastry too! You sure couldn't beat that meal. It held us for a good part of the day. We had ice cream each evening for a real treat. The B&B is a short walk into the center where we strolled the shops, but also close enough to take a drive each day to see Lee, West Stockbridge, and into Stockbridge to find the Divine Mercy Shrine. In a previous visit to Stockbridge we had already seen the Norman Rockwell Museum, so this trip we did not return there. One afternoon Camillo arranged a massage for each of us with a massage therapist from The Ranch (I believe it was). While we could not have a couples massage because of the limited space, this was of no concern because we still had our independent time to relax and feel pampered. We also felt very special because there were no other guests at the hotel for our Mon, Tues, Wed, so we essentially had the run of the house--but it was quiet and our own time to relax, regroup, and refresh. No question about it--we will return in the future. We are happy to recommend this location for a wonderful stay. We were treated well, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, and were made to feel very special.
