“It's all about the location! Beyond that, just an ordinary motel.”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

Love the location! Right on the beach! (thus my "very good" rating)

However, if you remove their fabulous beachfront location, they are just an ordinary motel, circa 1960's or 70's. They do keep it relatively clean, so that's good. I do have two issues that could be easily fixed though: 1) The housekeepers never remove/replace the glasses from the room. For three days we had the same two glasses. 2) The sheets. As someone else said, they want to come off the bed, and that's because the fitted sheet only wraps over the edge of the bed by 1-2"!!! I've never seen a sheet like that. Not all of the beds are this way. In our room one was this way, and one was closer to a normal fitted sheet. Obviously they've saved fabric by doing this, but it's annoying to have the sheet move around and icky if you are touching the mattress itself.

First time up north for vacation as we usually travel south (Myrtle, OBX, etc.). Just like everyone else I surfed the internet trying to find a nice family oriented motel to stay in. The Surfcomber was right on the money. I have never been to a motel that is right on the ocean like this one. The lounge chairs were a nice added touch ...me and my family made use of them almost every evening...gourgeous view of the ocean. The rooms were clean, comfortable beds, and great water pressure in the shower. Very quiet and peaceful after 10:00pm. No rowdy noise!!! The staff was very helpful and friendly. If I ever make my way up north again for vacation, this place will be on top of the list!!!

The Surfcomber is located a few blocks from the main thoroughfare. It's location- Mid-cape, with beachfront access, easy drive to many restaurants and activities- make it very attractive for families.

The staff were all courteous, warm, friendly. Housekeeping staff were easy to find and work with.

The heated pool, lounge chairs by the ocean, green grass, shuffle board court, stairs to the beach: all were wonderful for my family of three, including a two year old.

The room air conditioner was adequate.

The room decor was dated, but clean. There was wifi, a flat screen tv and a small kitchen in our unit. The bathroom was clean and adequate.

Only steps from the beach and a short ride to restaurants and activities- this is a great place to try!

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room, with a view of the ocean!

The title pretty much sums it all up. Overall after researching tons of places the Surfcomber was the best price for the location(Midcape). We also wanted a place right on the water.
Pros: This place had excellent service, very well maintained grounds as previous reviews have mentioned, and great waterfront property. The grassy areas that are equipped with chairs and umbrellas give you the sense that you're right at home in your backyard.
Keurig coffee makers were a plus for us! We brought our own Starbucks coffee Keurig to make.
Flat screen tvs
Very quiet and peaceful outside on the lawn or beach.
Within walking distance to Skippy's restaurant. Take advantage of that! The food was good. Also- we didn't realize this until our last night on the property but as you walk on the beach towards Skippy's there's actually a little beach park playground towards the Oceanfront with infant swings and other things for toddlers and older kids to play with.
Not much else is within walking distance which was no problem for us since we had our car.

Cons:- you have to pay $5/beach towel rental but you do get your money back when returning towels.
- the rooms did seem a bit muggy like a previous reviewer stated.
- the dark carpet and towels did have a smell to them that smelled like dirty old towels... Very faint smell but it made me paranoid for the whole stay.
- sheets do pull off the bed for some reason as previous reviewer stated as well. A little odd.
- not major but I thought it was weird that we had to pay the full balance of the stay upon Check-In. Usually when you Check Out you pay the full remaining balance at other hotels but they made us pay up front. Never heard of that!

Overall- if looking at the Midcape area would stay again- for the sole purpose of direct beach front access.

This was my second time staying at the Surfcomber. This time I stayed on the bottom floor and had a great view of the beach but since you're so close to the ocean, why would you stay in front of your room when you can utilize the lounge chairs (which always had vacancies) right in front of the beach?

The hotel is close to everything on Rt. 28 but far enough away that it's away from the crowds. The staff is friendly and the grounds are immaculate!! Good water pressure in the shower too.

As long as my life permits, I'll be back again next year!!!

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing two night beach vacation (we are a quiet middle aged couple) and the reviews of the Surf comber were so positive, that we decided to give it a try. The reviews were right on target.

Our room was very clean, bright, spacious, comfortable and quiet. We had a great view of the ocean from our balcony. The hotel is located on the beach has a beautiful pool and comfortable lounge chairs on the beach. The grounds are kept up very well, freshly painted, beautiful lawn and flowers.
The office is organized and well run, staff was friendly and accommodating, we plan to return. This is a great place for anyone who loves the beach and wants a quiet peaceful place to relax.

There is no restaurant on site , but many close by, the office staff gave us some great suggestions.

Stayed here four nights. Nice grounds, pool, right on the beach. Most rooms seem to have an ocean view, although some might be blocked by the pool. My room looked recently updated. Very clean. We had a great relaxing time here. Only downside is the limited availabilty of restaurants in walking distance; the one close by (Skippers) had good seafood (but mediocre nachos)

Room Tip: If you care about the ocean view, ask. Some on first floor might have limited view because of pool...
