“Perigee - nice people, uneven food and service”
Reviewed May 31, 2010

We just had dinner at Perigee on Memorial Day weekend. It was highly recommended by the B&B we stayed at. Based on the recommendations and the price of the dishes, we expected superior food with attentive service. The servers were all pleasant, but our waitress failed to check on us very often, as they seated us upstairs and she seemed to be based downstairs. No one remembered to bring our wine for a while, when we asked for ice water we were told there was no ice to be found, and then we waited a very long time for the main dishes after the appetizer. The server was apologetic, but the food seemed to a funny mish-mash of some parts being a bit overcooked (the hen) and other parts being under-cooked (the duck and the brussel sprouts, which were hard). Perhaps they were overwhelmed for the number of people on a holiday weekend, but we expected more. They kindly sent us desserts on the house because we waited so long for our meals. The flavors of the dishes were quite nice - if only the timeliness were better and more attention paid to whether the components of each dish were properly cooked, it would be an excellent choice.

“Perigee is a little jewel.”
Reviewed November 30, 2009

So glad I missed the former incarnation and went through Lee when Perigee had opened.

Ate dinner there one of the first nights this restaurant opened. The décor is original with the first floor more casual for the grab and go group and quiet and elegant upstairs for those who want to linger at tables with linen. The background music was an interesting mix that was not intrusive but kept the mood upbeat.

Down to the real news, the food. The bread basket and strawberry butter was a nice start, drinks ordered were taken promptly and served quickly. Appetizers got us started, I had the crab cakes and they were perfection with large pieces of lump crab throughout and a wonderful remoulade to go with it, fellow diners had onion soup and the sunflower hummus platter. We all tasted each other’s appetizers and all were glad we ordered what we did but must say each were excellent.

We all had salads, all good and then came dinner. I had the diver scallops with edamame succotash-yum, the scallops were cooked just right and the surrounding vegetable was delicious. My fellow diners had salmon with wasabi butter and the balsamic glazed rib eye made me jealous.

I see what other commenter’s have to say about the stairs but coming from NYC, this is something that happens; restaurants are often on two floors….I didn’t see a problem.
The bar is friendly and the service was tight and efficient. I have a keen eye for trouble and observed none in this little jewel. The rest rooms were nicely appointed with special amenities for the women, a much appreciated touch.

Can’t wait to return to Lee for more Perigee!

“now Perigee - no more Sweet Basil”
Reviewed November 24, 2009

Perigee was excellent! Seasonal menu, well-prepared; full bar (terrirfic bloody mary); fabulous desserts.
The only drawback is the staircase, which was also a problem when this location was Sweet Basil; servers are up and down - they need a dumbwaiter!
