We have had Sunday lunch at this restaurant twice in the last month. We enjoyed both visits. The service was excellent. There are many interesting menu choices. The wood-fired pizzas are really good, the burgers are great, and the desserts are to die for. The Autumn Salad is special. There is an extensive beer list with dozens of brews on tap from around the U.S. and beyond. The server was happy to bring me a mini glass of two brews so I could make an informed choice. A lovely gas fireplace adds ambiance. We always opt for the regular tables but they do have a number of tall tables as well. There are several TV screens at the bar but we didn't find them intrusive in the main part of the restaurant. We look forward to visiting the other Black Cow in Newburyport soon.

Walked in last night and very surprised to see the changes ownership has made. The place has become even livelier than before. And the young crowd was enjoying themselves. The high stools at most of the tables make it a tad more difficult for the over-60 crowd to be comfortable. But the service was friendly and attentive. Management quickly resolved one issue that arose during the meal. The restaurant is very clean. The menu offers a lot of choices and the food was above average. Good job at taking the restaurant into the 21st century. I may not be ready to go there but this restaurateur was. He updated without totally ignoring its previous charms.

After a length renovation, the Black Cow revealed a dramatic decor and new menu. I generally enjoy updates but this one took away the character and turned into a sports pub with too many TVs blaring from the walls. The food on both occasions was very disappointing especially for the price point. There are too many other options to warrant a return. Sorry.

I agree with others who have recently reviewed the new Black Cow in Hamilton. It doesn't receive high marks from me. It used to be reliable for quality food and good service.
The old seating format gave some privacy after a long day of work, but no longer.
You feel as though you are eating in a stadium with a group of people. Tables are way too close to each other. The high tables and chairs are uncomfortable and not easy for older people to access. Waitress showed up occasionally. Had to ask other waitress for water, assistance with food order and the check.
Our dinners were substandard. Onion soup had a vinegar taste, just didn't taste right. Companion's meal was undercooked and not very hot. Mine was unforgettable, rather bland and a little mushy. Asked for bun to be separated from burger and accompaniments on the side. The bottom bun arrived mushy and everything was piled on burger. It was as though I never made the specific requests.
We were very disappointed. Should have listened to friends who dis-recommended the place after the renovation, but thought we'd try it for ourselves as we'd never had a disappointing meal there before. They need a new cook. Won't be back. Too pricy for the quality and service given. Too bad.

I hadn't been to this restaurant in over a year and found the place updated with more modern decor. The food remains quite good albeit pricier. The chili was satisfactory and the desserts well made. It can be noisy at night when the bar gets busy.
