Description: John Andrews Farmhouse offers a unique farm-to-table dining experience in the Berkshires. Built in the late 1700s, the restaurant’s rustic, country charm is enhanced by a cozy fireplace in winter months and, in summer, al fresco dining is available on the terrace. The restaurant features New American cuisine with Italian influences, rooted in the region's agricultural history. Dan Smith has been the chef-owner since 1990, creating seasonal menus long before farm-to-table was a trend. Known as the “architect of modern Berkshire cooking,” as coined by Travel & Leisure, Dan offers a unique taste-of-place dining experience. Named one of the World’s 25 Best Farmstead Experiences in The Daily Meal, John Andrews Farmhouse is a Lonely Planet Top Choice and has been awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, Yankee Magazine Editor’s Choice and the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. Prix Fixe specials include Mom’s Meatloaf Monday (winter only) and Giovedi on Thursday nights (year round). John Andrews offers an extensive wine list, full cocktail bar and a lighter-fare bar menu. Open Thursday to Tuesday and closed Wednesdays, all major credit cards are accepted.

The restaurant is in the country after a very pleasant drive. It really is a farmhouse turned restaurant with a small old ice house in the back and outside tables in a garden-like setting. I sat inside near a window. While there were several other diners the overall sense was of peacefulness and simplicity. The food was superb, well-prepared and beautifully presented. The presentation of offering a choice of bread or focaccia in a large basket is an attractive way to provide choice and eliminate food waste (which there is way to much of in the U.S.). I ordered a beet and greens salad and a duck entree and both were delicious. Homemade ice cream and expresso finished off a really wonderful meal. I will definitely return whenever I am in the area.

This is a wonderful location - out on its own, beautiful setting, lovely restaurant, great service and great food and wine. We would return here repeatedly if we were in the area a lot. Highly Recommend!

The service is very weird - disgruntled, superior throw back hippie women. The room is dank and is there macrame - maybe. The food is hit or miss and not memorable, but pricey. Mystifying why this place has such a great reputation. We won't be rushing back there.

We went to John Andrews for a special dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was not over crowded. We ordered two appetizers, one of them a mussel dish; when we asked for more bread to go with it, our server brought us two small pieces of toast. Ours was a party of six, four of whom were adult men, so needless to say, the bread portion was inadequate. We were never offered any bread, an oversight that did not dawn on me until I saw other tables being offered an assortment of breads and olive oils. Two of our party ordered steaks medium rare, which arrived medium well. This mistake was corrected but of course the steak eaters had to eat after the rest of us were finished. The food was delicious, including the steaks, but I did not expect to be neglected at a restaurant of this calibre.

We are locals, and this is always an option for a special, celebratory meal. The attentive service, pleasant ambiance, and top-notch creative cuisine never disappoints. The fixed price menu (appetizer, entree and dessert for $30) was an exceptional bargain. There are many terrific restaurants in the Berkshires, and this is one of the very best.
