Drive a little further and go to Jiminy Peak in Hancock, MA or better yet, Stratton is just over the border in VT

Great place to ski...small mountain with some different trails and not to far from home!

This is coming from a snowboarder in his 2nd season of riding. I found Catamount to be really awesome. Free parking, $35 lift ticket for 3-10PM session. The $40 for board rental (can be had by printing out form online ahead of time) was a little on the pricey end, but they give you good stuff. I rode an Elan board and it rode really well. The $40 also comes with a helmet rental.
I went with a bud on a Friday night after a snow storm. No one really there, so that's good. Their trails are pretty good. Majority of their lifts are double seaters which are really for a single person comfortably, but you can put up with that.
The lodge is average. Got 2 fountain sodas and a chicken finger & fries for around $10 which is reasonable. I think there is a restaurant attached to the lodge for proper food but we didnt go in. Think theres beer served in there.
One last thing to mention is that the drive up from NYC is really boring and devoid of stuff. So if youre driving from NYC, bring snacks & drinks for the car.
All in all, I am definitely going back to this place. Its a little far from me, but with a few friends spliting the gas, its a good deal.

Catamount is a mountain I've skied, but not for many years. The mountain was very icy (but given this year, man made snow is the only way). The lodge is too small, and poorly run, the food section is like a confining tunnel and needs a serious upgrade, since skiing has become such a part of family activities in the Berkshires.

Skied Catamount on a Friday mid-February and found it delightful! Snow conditions much better than we had any right to expect, considering there is no snow anywhere off the trails. They obviously invested in snowmaking, which made the trails very enjoyable.
It is not a very challenging resort, but I am not a very adventurous skier! True most beginner trails are relatively short, but the nice long perimeter cruiser Sidewinder was long enough to reward the lift ride, very relaxing and scenic. We made "first tracks" on almost every trail, and never found a spot skied off or icy.
All staff we interacted with were pleasant and friendly.
Would definitely visit again.
