Hotels in the Boston/Cambridge area are obscenely expensive. I'm glad that this hotel provides accommodation at a reasonable cost.

The rooms are comfortable (looks like the hotel was renovated not too long ago) and is conveniently located near the orange T line (about 10 min walk to the Sullivan station). Some may complain about the neighborhood, but it is a convenient location. For those who need to go to Cambridge area, there are bus stops about two blocks away that take riders to MIT and Harvard.

Staff are friendly. The only reason why I gave four stars instead of five is because of the reliability of the free internet. It dropped out or slowed to a crawl occasionally, probably because of the load from other customers on the same floor.

There was also some street noise early in the morning (truck or train?)

I would not prefer the location but all the hotels in the city were sold out. Reminds me of old industrial town. I just stayed one night for business so it was fine. The rooms were good and and the bed was comfortable.

Thank you for your review. We are so sad to hear we are not your first pick due to the area. We are in a very busy area and so close to so much, the T, Union Square, Quncy Market, TD Garden and many more. Our rooms are great--and the beds so comfortable. We want to be your first pick next time and every time. Please let me know if you will be back in the area.
Thank you for this feedback, and please reconsider us.

We visit family in Somerville periodically and have stayed at the La QuInta before this. Never again! From now on, this Holiday Inn will definitely be our choice. Large room, good beds, decent food, and good price. Friendly and helpful staff. Free parking and easy access from the Interstate. Clean and attractive.

We had one dinner and two breakfasts in the restaurant, which has recently been renovated.
All the food was good except perhaps the scrambled eggs. However, there was lots of bacon and sausage, pancakes or waffles, fresh fruit and the usual breads, cereal and yogurt. Coffee was brought to your table and there was no styrofoam to be seen. Just china and glass. Breakfast can also be ordered from the menu.

All in all, a good experience.

I made my first visit to Boston this past Spring to take in a Bruins game. My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights. The hotel was just north of downtown Boston, but they provided a shuttle service to the TD Garden and Quincy Market, which was great. As we stayed north of downtown, we saved a lot of money. That said, the hotel was well worth it and some!!

The staff were all great and very helpful to us. The hotel itself seems like it was newly decorated, rooms included. We were both very, very happy with our time spent there and we will no doubt look to book another stay at the Holiday Inn for our next trip back to Boston.

This hotel has several things going for it. Mostly, it's staff and desire to provide you with a great experience. Although, not without problems, we found the good far out weighs the bad. The property is very well maintained and we found the room to be very nice and well stocked, and cleaned well. The pool area has an area for recreation that has a pool table, ping pong, and small basketball court. One thing to note here is that the pool and adjoining area is not open at all hours. The city of Sommerville requires the pool to be staffed by a lifeguard anytime it is open. With that being an added expense, it becomes a challenge for the hotel to fulfill this requirement at a cost effective endeavor even when there are no guests using the area during the middle of the day. Therefore, their solution is to close the pool during the slow times of the day-so take note of the hours they are open. They have a shuttle service that they will deliver or pick you up within a certain radius of the hotel. You are required to put your name on a list to reserve the time of your request. At times it fills up so it does make sense to put your name in as soon as you know the time of your need. The main issue we had with this service is it's reliability. You cannot rely on it if you have to be somewhere at a certain time. We had more than one instance where we had our name in along with others. We arrived at the waiting point on time, however the others were not there and had just "ran up to their room, and would be right down". The waiting time got later and later and later, yet the driver wouldn't leave without them. And we got later and later to our scheduled appointment because the others kept telling the driver they would be right down when he called. The area the hotel is located in is a safe area and located between two Dunkin Donuts. The one, a 6-8 minute walk to the south is located inside a convenience store but doesn't have any area for sitting. There is a sitting area but it is specifically reserved for people gambling. The one to the north, which is also about a 6-8 minute walk, has seating and has an extensive menu serving coffee, donuts, sandwiches, fruit, and other drinks. Walking another 5 minutes north from there, you will find a metro stop for buses and subway. Getting on the subway from here is great in that you can get anywhere in the system from this location. We were able to get a one week ticket allowing as many rides as needed for only $18. Considerably less expensive than cab fare, rental car, and quick access to almost anywhere. The ticket also included free use of their bus system. We were pleasantly surprised to find the hotels restaurant reasonably priced and serving a wide variety of good food. We ate there several times and never had a bad meal and received great service. One thing we found great was to each order an appetizer and take them to our room making it a meal due to their ample portions. We were able to print out our boarding passes using their business rooms computer and printer, and found the exercise room to be small but ample. Above all else, we found management had a burning desire to serve their guests well and a need to provide you with a great experience. We found the price to be very reasonable and well worth the subway trip and short walk to save on other high priced downtown Boston hotels. We highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If needed, an Enterprise rental car is about a 8 minute walk west of the subway station.
