Spur of the moment dinner in Somerville's Union Square after attending the annual Fluff Festival. (Yes, it was invented in Somerville). The popular restaurant and food are on the plain side, but it was very comfortable. The food was decent and well served. Our first time there, or anywhere for the food of Peru. While we would not make a special trip to Machu Pichu, we would be pleased to find ourselves back there for another meal after next year's Fluff Festival.

We ordered a grilled chicken for lunch which was ok, but not great. Had higher expectations. The decoration and ambiance was good.

I get a craving for their chicken, so I'm a regular at the rate of maybe once or twice/month. More in summer if I ride my bike anywhere near there.
This is the smaller Machu Picchu in Union Square. I think they still have the larger one with live music and a pricier menu near Union Sq as well, but I havent been there.
If you just need your latin/So American fix of really good plate of rotisserie chicken , plaintains or yucca, tacu tacu (peruvian rice and red beans) for less than like $8 bucks, go!
the waitstaff is very pleasant, no matter who serves you. and you're left to enjoy your food until you are ready to ask for the cuenta, never rushed.
Also seems to be very clean.

We were looking for something different and thought a Peruvian restaurant would be fun.

Very average room with blah decor. Seating was comfortable with tables nicely spaced. Waited 15 minutes for a drink order to be taken even though the room was less than 1/3 full and there were a number of servers around. Waited another 20 minutes for food order to be taken.

Food was truly unimpressive. Fat and gristle of meat and chicken large clumps of rice. What was lean enough too eat was OK but hard to find. The flavors of some of the food were interesting but overall the fare would have been OK in a hole in the wall takeout kind of place or lunch truck but the Machu Picchu was priced at the moderate level ($15 entrees) and it didn't deliver.

Also watch out for the 15% gratuity that is added onto the check. (It is mentioned in the menu but easy to miss.)
