Bloc 11 has become my "go to" place when I am visiting Somerville/Cambridge, MA - 4 - 5 times a year to see family, since they opened. The coffee and other drinks are spot on. A personal favorite is the rooibos vanilla latte which I get with with soy milk. It's breakfast or lunch for me quite often, although the food is quite good. It's typical coffee shop fare, but a little better: sandwiches (including a great breakfast sandwich; and delicious baked goods). In addition to the main floor area at the front, there are some nooks at the back, where one can sit quietly with a small group. There are also board games. There's a great vibe here with the original bank hardware still much in evidence. Altogether, a very cool place, and the friendly service gives it an edge over some other places. There is a patio area outside which is great for those lovely Boston summer days. It's equally good whether visiting alone, or with friends or family. It's very slightly out of the main flow of heavy traffic in Union Square, making it quieter than you'd expect from a city cafe.
