“Bowers House B&B ! Great!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Had the king room on the first floor... very neat, clean and comfortable... private bathroom just across the hall...there was a sitting room next to my room and behind that, the kitchen. There did not appear to be any other rooms on that floor, making it very private.

The directions to get there were perfect .As a first time visitor to Boston/Somerville, with no car, I was happy to see that I could take the T red line. Christina's directions were very clear and concise...included info on cabs and airport to site travel.

The house is located just inside a residential area. Very close by there are many restaurants to choose from . Christina, my hostess was charming and friendly ... the continental breakfast had a variety of comestibles.. fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, muffins, danish, bagels and more. I did not leave hungry :)
I was visiting a granddaughter on Parents Weekend and after check out was able to leave the luggage there until later in evening ... a very nice perk for me.

We stayed while visiting relatives in the area, and the other reviews are correct about the closeness to the T and Davis Sq restaurants. We also noted the cleanliness and the friendliness of the owners.
With two of us and lots of luggage (wedding trip) the King room was a squash and the lack of nightstands and other places to put things (e.g. no shelves in the bathroom) made things a bit cramped. The furniture is a bit sparse in the living room too.
Breakfast was a surprise - only continental (not even cheese) and plastic cutlery and tableware. (In Boston no less - how eco-friendly is that?) B&B does include both B's, in our experience. I went out for a proper breakfast on our second day.

We are sorry that you did not have a “proper breakfast” at Bowers House. As advertised on our website, we provide continental breakfast. We offer bagels, croissants, multi-grain bread, scones, danish, muffins, as well as waffles. We alternate these choices daily. We also have Chobani yogurt and low-fat Activia yogurt in a variety of flavors such as strawberry, blueberry, peach and vanilla. Our breakfast also includes oatmeal and healthy Special K cereals and individual packaged variety cereal. For beverage, we have premium orange juice, apple juice, low-fat milk, filtered water and bottled water in your room upon your arrival. We offer several choices of coffee and tea for breakfast and throughout the day. In addition, we also have fresh fruit daily for breakfast including apples, oranges and bananas. Many of our guests are very surprised and delighted that we have such a large healthy selection of food for breakfast. We are sorry that our wide selection of healthy breakfast choices didn’t satisfy you, but we are happy to hear that you went to McDonald’s to fulfill your proper breakfast in your letter to us.

As for additional night stand, we would have gladly provided another one for you if you had requested. Your private bathroom has a built-in linen closet with 3 large shelves, which is sufficient for most family. In the living room, there is a large 3 seat sofa and 1 seat sofa, along with a chair. We also provide additional seating upon request from our guests.

During your stay at Bowers House, you and your wife and your relative were happy and never requested additional nightstand or seating. We would have gladly provided them. Many of our guests commented that they enjoy sitting and relaxing in our uncluttered and comfortable living room.

Had the king room on the first floor with private bath across the hall. Great having access to the "communal" sitting room and kitchen. Met my standards of clean, cool, comfortable and quiet!! A four minute walk to the T. Steven and Christina were extremely accommodating and helpful. FREE parking across the street. Safe and quiet area of Somerville. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Have lunch or dinner at Postos Italian restaurant around the corner! The lamb gnocchi was delicious...

We had a double room which was basic but modern and very comfortable. The shower room was perfect and everything was clean. A good hairdryer was provided. Stephen was full of tips and advice for exploring Cambridge and Boston. We used the T quite a lot which was about 5 minutes walk away, easy to navigate and about 10 minutes to Harvard/MIT and about 20 minutes into downtown Boston. The continental breakfast had a good selection of fruit, cereals and yoghurt, and excellent pastries and muffins :-) It was very relaxed and easy-going.
The area of Somerville is very vibrant and convenient with plenty of shops and nice cafés and restaurants on the doorstep. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for a week and could not have been happier - clean, comfortable and convenient for the T and many restaurants, literally just round the corner. Christina and Stephen were friendly and helpful, we really enjoyed the comfort of the kitchen and living room too. So glad we chose Bower's house instead of a large hotel, it was much nicer (and of course much better value). Would definitely stay here again.

Christina the owner/hostess invited us in and we immediately felt at home in our clean, spacious room. She is incredibly friendly and accommodating. The location is right in Davis Square, just a couple of blocks from the train station and near many cafes, restaurants, stores, and a historic movie theater. The common kitchen area is clean and special treats are provided. Our room also had a newly renovated bathroom that was very nice. The only problem was that we weren't able to stay for weeks!

My husband and I loved staying at Bowers House. We had not a single complaint from our three-night stay.

First of all, we got into town early and, needing a place to put our bags that was safely out of the rain, we ended up heading to the house before check-in time. Christine was very accommodating and allowed us to keep our bags in the building while we went in search of lunch. When we came back, there were cookies waiting for us!

Second, the location is great. There's plenty of shopping, eating and drinking to do around Davis Square, and it's just a few blocks from the Red Line, so it's easy getting into the city.

Our room was well-furnished with everything we could need. It had two closets and a completely new bathroom with a spacious shower. There was a window unit, as well as a fan. The fast wi-fi and cable television were also appreciated.

There was a good variety at breakfast, from cereal and yogurt to pastries and bagels. Juice, milk, coffee, and tea were available. It also looked like other guests were storing leftovers in the kitchen fridge, which was available all the time. In addition, there was a lounging area on the second floor with magazines and travel brochures.

In short: great location, good price, comfortable and clean! We loved it!

Room Tip: All of the rooms on our side of the building were on the third floor, so I'd recommend calling t...
