If you are staying in the Wauwinet area, the bike ride out to Sankaty head is just long enough to to feel you can treat yourself to a post-ride lobster roll and ice cream. It took us a little exploring to figure out how to get from the bike path to the lighthouse, but found the turn-off on Baxter Lane, which brings you over to Baxter Road. Enjoy the views (and the houses) before terminating at the light house. A classic Nantucket scene.

The Brant Point lighthouse doesn’t offer sweeping vistas and the Great Point lighthouse is a chore to get to. Sankaty, on the other hand, is just a short walk or bike from Siasconset and offers vistas of green waves of grass and sea in all directions. If you’re short on time, you can snap a great photo of it from the road north of town looking across the Sankaty golf course.

This is an easy review to write. If you enjoy sunsets and the beautiful sky after the sun is gone than Sankaty Lighthouse is for you. You will also enjoy the views across the golf course to the clubhouse to Sesachacha Pond. Try saying that fast three times. Remember to bring a blanket, a bottle of wine, and your better half. Don’t forget to get some pictures of the Lighthouse.

A must see. Learn about the beach erosion and movement of historic homes to avoid them from falling into the sea. An amazing east side of the island experience.

Take a bike ride to the point to see the lighthouse. It's a marvel how it was moved, and a lovely trek past beautiful homes.
