The setting is idyllic and the lighthouse is actually working. Cannot go in but lovely to see nonetheless.

Great view over the bluff...greenery before the lighthouse makes for great photos; word to the wise...it's pretty windy! :)

I wouldn't travel across the island just to visit Sankaty Head, but if you're out in Siasconset anyway it's definitely worth going a few minutes out of your way to see the lighthouse. The grounds are open to the public and the setting is very nice, with the ocean to one side and a golf course to the other. Baxter Road, which leads to the lighthouse, has a lot of beautiful cottages on it as well. You can walk right up to the lighthouse, and there is some informational signage with historical information about Sankaty Head. If you're out on this end of Nantucket it's a must-see.

We rented a bike in Youngs in Nantucket and cycled a stunning twenty one mile bike path and route which took us to this beautiful sight. Siasconset is worth a look too
