We were up in Rutland, MA visiting friends and took a trip over to the Candy Mansion. Decent deals on candy which was delicious but even better was the ice cream bar they have. Worth it to try out and we had some good ice cream with all the toppings we could want. Pices are reasonable. We were there over a holiday weekend and the factory was not running but would go back to see that next time we are in the area.

Hebert's has been around as long as I have. Unfortunately they are not aging as gracefully as I am. Seems the chocolate used to be creamier than it is now. As a chocolate gourmet, the difference is quite evident and perhaps due to short cuts and lower quality ingredients.

It is by no means the worse chocolate available so for those less picky as I, it is adequate.

The mansion is impressive and you can see the kitchen and watch production. There are many unique items for gift-giving so the ride would not be for nothing.

Throughout the summer there is a small car show on Thursday nights. Again, not a major event but something to do on a nice summer evening.

Although renamed Colonial Candies now... It's still the same yummy place it was when I was younger. The smell when you walk in is of vanilla icecream. They serve Icecream and Candy Galore!!... everything you could think of covered in chocolate!

Remember going to the candy mansion as a kid, and then taking my own children there. The make your own sunday is a big draw when looking for a special treat for the kids for a job well done. And it's hard to beat the smell of chocolate when you walk thru the door.

From the moment we entered the mansion, staff were there to greet us and offer us chocolate samples - YUM! We spent about 20 minutes in the mansion...walking around and looking at all the offerings and, of course, staff continued to offer us samples...we must've enjoyed 3 or 4! We also spent a few minutes watching staff making candies in the back - interesting to see! Of course, it's not Hershey PA but still pretty neat to see right in your backyard! We left with a few chocolate bars and a bunch of other treats and a feeling that staff were happy to see us. That's how guests should feel when the leave. Stop in for a visit to Hebert's if and when you're in the area!
