Had a great relaxing meal. Food was very well prepared and service was wonderful. Reserved a private dining room upstairs for a small gathering. Room was clean and rustic. Perfect place for a small gathering, especially with small children.

Farm fresh food with an ever changing menu. The tavern is truly historical, and we appreciate having something different with home cooked food so close to home. I'd avoid the trivia night if possible - or get there early for a meal and head out.

The Bull Run is a music / restaurant venue in Shirley, MA. My wife and I went there because some friends of ours were playing in the Tap Room. So we took the opportunity to eat dinner there and take in the music. We started off with cocktails. I had a vodka gibson ($7.70) which didn't have much of a kick to it. Perhaps I am getting too used to them??? At any rate, I switched to Cabernet for dinner ($6 each). My wife stuck with her normal Merlot (also $6). So drinks weren't too expensive. We were going to order prime rib, but we both realized we were having beef the next day so we decided to switch to having an appetizer (stuffed Portobello Mushroom, $7) and a mixed meat and veggie pizza. My wife immediately said the stuffed mushroom was rather bland. I agreed although it was quite edible. It was one large Portobello mushroom stuffed with spinach and chunks of other portobello mushrooms. My wife and I preferred to have two (or more) smaller mushrooms with a bit more seasoning. We ordered a split meat and veggie pizza. One side was meat the other veggie. The split pizza cost $14.75. We wanted ham and sausage but they didn't have that so we ended up getting bacon and pepperoni. The other side was red onion, mushrooms and peppers. The pizza was very average and not as good as pizza at other restaurants. They served up bread with a trio of possible toppings on the side (butter, olive oil/balsamic vinegar and ground olives). The toppings were all decent. Since we were hanging around, we decided to get some spicy popcorn ($6) to munch on. We were in a tap room and it was quite noisy. In fact, it was so noisy that we couldn't hear the group we came to listen to. For some reason, the Bull Run did not turn on the other speakers located in the Tap Room. They just left the speakers right near the music group on. Fortunately, some other folks who also came to listen invited us to change tables (they were dead center 6 feet from the music group). Note: the Bull Run also has a large music venue for more popular groups. I wouldn't consider the Bull Run a great restaurant but it was a nice evening. Service was very good. I was kind of surprised that the Bull Run didn't have the ham or sausage for the pizza. Their menu says extra toppings and the prices (meat one price, veggie another) but it didn't specify what meats or veggies were available.
The place was full but not overcrowded (no empty tables but the tables were well spaced). The parking lot was full as well as there was another group in the larger venue. I would not make a special trip to the Bull Run for the food, but would return for the combination of entertainment and food.

We recently attended a concert at this out of the way restaurant. As a small venue we thought it would be unique and fun to see Jefferson Starship. As it turns out - the event was louder than a jet on a runway. Painful enough that many of the patrons had their ears covered to block out the ridiculously loud music. Foolishly, the Bull Run allows the band to dictate the sound level - so what you have is a bunch of burned out 70 year old rockers that never grew up and never turned down the volume. For those that valued their hearing and listening to quality music - the event lasted all of ten minutes.

Following up with Bull Run's management the next day netted zippo. They were quick to take our cash, but when it came to customer service - they chose not to engage us. Very disappointing and a reflection of the ownership at the Bull Run in Shirley. Don't waste your time or money.....

As the owner of the Bull Run Restaurant. I'm very sorry to hear that any patron did not enjoy their visit to our establishment. It is never our goal to have you leave anything but 100% satisfied. We have a varied audience of all ages and tastes for blues, jazz, comedy, and folk. We support local musicians and national acts of all types. Some genres of music are louder than others - including rock n' roll such as Jefferson Starship - and not a fit for all listeners and we are happy to provide information or recommendations based on your preferences in advance of any show for our patrons.

A great place for a full meal, a burger or a pizza. The food is fresh and well-prepared and most of the ingredients are from local farms and producers. There is a good wine list, both by the bottle and by the glass and a nice range of beers. The service is great and very, very friendly. Don't miss it!
